George Alexander, one ot the proprietors of the Valley hardware store, while on his way home on West Taklma avenue, the principal thoroughfare of this city, last night was ordered by two men to . throw up his hands. He did so, but . tailed to get them high enough and one ' of the men ohot. The bullet entered Alexander's, mouth, tore his tongue and lodged near the base of his brain. He is still living and efforts are being made to locate and extract the bullet. No ar rests have been made. OPERA TAKES ADVANCE STEP IN AMERICA ' (Special Dispatch to The JewrnaH Boston, Nov. SO. With Interesting ceremonies and in the presence of a distinguished gathering, the corner stone was laid 'this afternoon for the new Boston opera house, which Is de signed to take front rank among the temples of music In America. The structure is being built at Huntington avenue and Opera place on a site ad joining that of Symphony hall, the home of the Boston symphony orches tra, The cornerstone exercises were at tended by Governor Guild Mayor Hib bard and other persons of prominence. Including a party of opera singers and musicians from New York. A bronze box was placed in the cornerstone con taining phonographic records of the voices of Mmea. Nordlca, Karnes, Niel sen and other distinguished singers, and copies of music written by the foremost American composers. WEATHER REIORT WEATHER CONDITIONS. A storm of marked intensity Is cen tral this morning over southern Min nesota; It has caused general rains over the Mississippi and Ohio valleys and the lake region and snow In Montana and the Dakotas. Light snow has also fallen In Idaho and the eastern por tions of these states. A marked high pressure area has developed in the British northwest and extends south ward over Montana; it has caused a decided fall in temperature in this sec tion, while the low barometer area, central over Minnesota, has caused un seasonably warm weather In the middle and upper Mississippi valley and the lake region. Light to heavy frosts have been general over California.
