It had hardly been introduced, how ever, befoeir the Prohibitionists adopted It. Being under obligations to the lat ter, the Liberals could not repulse them top roughly. Before they fairly realised wnat was foing on. the bill's original supporters ound ths teetotalers had transformed it Into a real temperance measure. Not only was the liquor trade heavily re stricted but all attempt was abandoned to conceal' the fact that the temperance' party meant to make the reduction In the number of saloons a mere step toward totsT prohibition.
