Battling Nelson has too much on hand to pay much at tentlon to fighting for a while. Not that "Bat" has any Intention of retiring from the ring. Bless you, no. Says the lightweight champion: "I don't ex pect to fight again for several months I worked hard to get to the top, and those who are after my title can do the same. After I turn my book over to the publishers I expect to go west again. I'm putting up 25 houses out at Hegewlsch and that's why I am going out there now. There's considerable detail and bookkeeping to be looked after, and your uncle Bat Isn't letting anyooav trim mm. When I get those houses finished I'll have an income of about a thousand dollars a month from them and my other real estate there. They'll never need to get up any benefits for me when m v fiBhtins- davs are over. Sav. I've learned enough about the publish ing Business in tne lasi rew aaya to go Into It myself. My book Is going to be a good seller. I am having so many Illustrations made that I'll have to cut down the slxe of the cuts and bunch several of them on a page. I am putting in some interesting dope, too; stuff from the 'Inside' that has never been printed before. "I have a ranch out in New Mexico which needs Improving. My brother has a big place adjoining, and we ex pect to build a couple of good houses this winter. Building is a business that I have learned a great deal about, too. Then I have some property in Califor nia which John D. Rockefeller might want. They have struck oil On the place, and It looks like a big thing. Besides this I have a big vineyard out there. Personally. I have no use for the nice of the grape, but there is money n It. Now. do vou blame me for putting- In my time this Winter on those croD- osltlons? A lot of the fellows who want to fight me wouldn t draw enough to make it worth my while to waste my time by going into training. "I know I did." re plied Matty, "but wait until I meet Drls coll In our 12-round bout at Boston. Then I will show you whether he can beat me or not. I could not find him In those six rounds, but in 12 rounds I will get him." Jem Drlscoll beat Matty Baldwin In their six-round go In this city and Is now In line for a fight with Attell. It was another one of these Inconclu sive, unsatlsfactorv six-round affairs, and while it demonstrates the fact that Drlscoll Is the better man in six rounds, it does not prove that he is Baldwin's master, as a fighter. There are few champions who are not at the mercy of a smart, clever boiter7 who is not in the same class when 11 comes to real fighting, for example, take "Bat" Nelson.
