Talbot, bound for Manila with 1,000,000 feet of lumber, A peculiar Incident in connection with the departure of these two Vessels Is the fact that both of them secured crews without having to employ the aid of go-between men, the captain of the schooner as well as the captalh of the square-rigger hawing a long list of applications for Jobs on hand. The . schooner sighed a whole crew, and the Asgerd took IS new men: The own ers of both vessels saved considerable money. Steamer H. B. Kennedy, Which Will Carry Excursions on Puget-Sound Next Year During the Fair. On Saturday, November 28, the steel steamer H. B. Kennedy will be launched from the ways at the Willamette Iron & Steel works in" North Portland. The craft is the first steel passenger boat to be built here and will be one of the finest en the Pacific coast when com pleted. The total cost of construction will be npproxlrtifttfly 1300,008. The H. li. Kennedy Is owned bv the Navy Yard -Route gteamshjp company of Seattle, and will be placed in com mission carrying excursionists on Puget sound next summer during the Alaska Yukon exposition. She is 190 feet long, 28 feet wido and will drow 12 feet Being built expressly for the passen ger trade she will be beautifully fin ished and spacious. The contract calls for delivery of the boat by March 1. Oriental Liner Atari Will Sail in Early Part of Week. - The German steamer Alesia of the Portland A Asiatic Steamship com pany's oriental line will sail during the ; early part : of this week direct for Vladivostok.' Siberia, with a full cargo of flour, measuring about 65,000 barrels and valued at about $250,000. It will be the largest shipment of flour sent from here for some time. The liner Arabia, which arrived here Friday night from Hongkong via Japa nese ports, Honolulu and San Fran cisco, will also take out a full cargo of flour, but it will be distributed among the Japanese and- Chinese ports. The gasoline sloop Condor, Captain o'clock last' night from Newport, bring ing a small quantity of freight. The steamer Alliance. Captain Olson. sailed from Couch street dock for Coos Bay at 8 o'clock, carrying a full cargo of freight and about fifty passengers. rne steam scnooner Mome city, cap tain Hansen, is loading lumber at the mills of the Eastern Western Lumber company, but will shift to Rainier Mon day to complete her cargo. Captain Hansen expects her to sail about Wednesday for San Francisco. The Spanish steamer Jupiter is re ported as being under charter to load lumber at this port or on Puget sound for Australia in the near future. The British bark Matterhorn has been chartered by Balfour, Guthrie & Co. to bring a general cargo from Newcastle-on-Tyne to Portland. A large number of coasters are due to arrive here this week from - San Francisco with general cargo. The steam Bchooners Cascade and Homer are i expected at Oak stream dock to morrow or Tuesday and the Rose City and Roanoke will be at their respective docks tomorrow night or Tuesday morning.
