O'Connell. - 4 4-l V fcutOi's Statement 4 4 -I I believe my Ions; work has 4 " placed me In the best possible 4 4 condition to meet O'Connell to- 4 night. O'Connell Is a first-class 4 4 , wrestler in every department of 4 , the) game, but I know that I am 4. stronger than he and the long 4 . route of five falls Is to my liking. 4 I am practically tireless up to 4 two hours and I don't think the . match will go that long before a 4 winner Is, returned. I concede 4 that O'Connell Is fast, but then 4 I can travel at .a pretty rapid. 4 rate, myself. I a hall almost be 4 ready to admit that O'Connell. 4 is the better man if he downs me 4 tonight fitrangler Smith. 4 . Can Suaa Borne, Too Smith is no slouch at the rushing game himself and in vam past has sent more than oe opponent off his feet by his speed.. Therefore when their speed la manured there can hardly be a prettier sight thai) the two men wnen thv Mima together. - - O'Connell will have this advantage over Smith H Is inches to the good on reach and height and this may be the deciding factor when coupled with his speed. He has to overcome the ali but believes he can do this before the vmtll has prograed the full Ave falls. Smith on the other hand will make a valiant attempt to take the first" fall. He realises with the .initial fall tucked away he wUThave a little chance- to ex periment with O'Connell and perhaps overcome the handicap his height ana reach stive, Efvervthlns is In readiness for the Tti enor sirepgm 01 m mew mnuui Btrangfer Smith-Eddie O'Connell wrest linir match innlatht in Merrill's hall, and when the two men go on the mat to commence their battle for the middle weight championship of the coast, they will be greeted what will probably be tha largest crowd that ever attended a wrestling match in Portland. Both men announced this morning that they were fit for a great struggle and the grappling should be class per sonified. Those who are handling O'Connell's end of the game asserted that he would start out to win from the word. He believes that his rush tactics will tire Smith out before the match has had a chance to go the .full five Heretofore patrons of the sport have witnessed more or less head pulling, and general hauling on the part of the wrestlers. O'Connell's style Is diametri cally opposite to this -methodr and no low men-can' hope to stay In the ring with him- and pursue the elow tactics. f The referee wHl he chosen at the on the result the otftclal will have to be very careful that hla Judgment is accurate and satisfactory to all con cerned. . . , Preparations have been made to com fortably seat all the spectators close arouitd the ringside so that every move ment of the muscles of the wrestlers may be observed. Merrill hall will be comfortably heated before the doora are opened to the public, HILL HAS EASY TIME WITH ACADEMY TEAM Crack Cadets 'Boll Up 22 to 0 Score and Win Game Handily. (Special DUpetch to The Journal.) Oregon Agricultural' College. Corval lls, Nov. 12. A touchdown and field goal by Oregon Agricultural College gave them a victory over Whitman college yesterday afternoon, 9 to 0. The game was characterised by stiff defense on the part of the Missionaries and slow playing by the collegians. Wolfe made the first score In the first half on a place kick after an official had In terrupted a play on the part of the Beavers. In ths second half the Beavers rushed the ball down the field several times and Cady made a touchdown on a Plunge but something happened In the line and the touchdown was not al lowed. O. A. C. then tried a forward pass which failed and the Missionaries took the ball. Whitman punted to cen ter field and the Beavers began another march goal ward. Whitman made a des perate stand on her own 10-yard line, took the ball and tried a couple of plays without rain. A punt was attempted by the Missionaries but It waa fum bled back of the line and the kicker, while trylnar to run the bail back, was downed about the one-yard line. Since it was tne tmra down the bail was given to the Agrics, who shoved Cooper across the goal for a touchdown. woue could not negotiate the goal posts and score was 9 to 0. Hastings cleared the goal Una for the Aggies on the first play after Whit man kicked off. The officials ruled against the play! however, and It was started again. Corvallls kept the ban always In Whitman's territory during tne nair ana triea several place kicks but there waa nothing doing. Almost during the entire game the ball went hack and forth In the Mis sionaries' territory but their stiff de fense prevented- the locals from shov ing it across the line. The lineup: - - - O. A. C.
