With a very short crop of potatoes in sight in Oregon and throughout Washington and Idaho owing to the protracted dry spell, and somewhat of the ame report coming from California, the indications at this time are that Oregon and other northwest producers Will receive one of the highest prices for their potatoes in many years. There Js nnlv one thing that would spoil this . outlook from a financial viewpoint, nn.l that is frr a wrv heavy shower or two ; in Inv.idK the Willamette, valley as well as throughout interior northwest. Ac cording to information received this morning u Urge per cont of the crop this year will he undersized-in fact, eo much so that unless the shortage Js so verv ncute they will not enter the market at nil. (If course srood showers would help the situation much, but unless they conie soon there will f be but little ue for them. BmaU Baying: for Alaska. While the 'Indications are that Oregon will be called upon soon to supply the. bulk of Alaska's potato wants this ses sion, but a small amount of business la shown at the moment. The. reason for this is the small offerings by pro ducers because of the backward season rinfl to a late snrina- and dry weather. At the moment sales of selected stock for Alaskn shlDtpent are reported at country shipping points around $1 per - hundred potions, which .would meK it Bllghtly better than 11.05 Portland ODfon Market Very Stiff. There Is a very stiff tone In the onion market at the moment here, with Walla Walla producers holding: firmer because or the very neavy oemana ann small available supplies of early stock. While It Is quite likely that Oregon will produce a good crop of onions this sea son, the lack of rains Into in the season nd -a very cold and late spring; which retarded sowing: will cause the local crop to enter the market rather late from present indications. Eastern Hggn Crowding" Market. There Is this to the present egg market despite ell utterances of some handlers to tha contrary the fact that astern eggs are arriving and have been purchased at quite high prices is caus ing some of the local handlers to boost the pr.lce of local stock In order to more readily sell their imported stock. Another car of eastern stock was un loaded this morning In verv fine condi tion and is being priced at 28 and 24c a .dozen. Boosting local egg values In order to sell eastern stock more readilv Is a 'very old game in this market and the scheme is being played more strong Iv than ever this season by importers. Along Front treet tiiere 1s a natural Increase -in firmness on local eggs of best nualltv. as Is always true this time of the season, hut the high prices being onoted in some quarters are generally I to 1 He higher than Front street Is iblo to receive. All this talk about Front street not selling good eggs Is tnere bosh and 1? spread merelv to sell eastern stock. Eggs are candled just ' well on Front street as anywhere on the coast and unless stocks are good the commission men lose the trade. It 1s up to them to candle their stock ea re full v and 'his they have been doing for years. All talk to the contrary Is an attempt of some newspapers to aid the importers in their right against Oregon eggs. Brief Kotes of the Trade. Poultry market is firmer with some ales at a slight advance. Looks as If the market has reached its height. Creamery butter is very firm with advanced values drawing closer. Market Is overstocked with small sized peaches, which are selling as low as 4Uc a pox. ancy stock from 70 to !C.
