K , New Lstliiiato "Modern Hlaves A home mission work that Is doing much to brighten the lives of men and women who are without home and friends is the Portland commons, an auxiliary to the Olive Branch mission, recently opened at 16H Front street under the care of W. G. McLaren su perintendent, who has had experience In the municipal lodging house of Great Britain and pn the continent. The commons now has 80 beds for un fortunates who need a night's lodging, and It Is the aim of the mission to keep In touch with the men, get them employment If possible, and stand by those who need aid, A monthly report of the work of the mission will be published In the Portland Olive Branch, the pnper of the society, of which the officers nre; President, Aaron Wells; vice-president. Rprnguo, 45 years old, Is reported as missing by his wife since yesterday, when he started from their room in the Qulroby hotel to go to Lenta to look at a farm.
