It Is stated that scv " eral small lots have been written up " for the coming season at 9c and 10c . a pound. Th favorable conditions of " the foreign crops and the denial that any great acreage had been plowed up In England have both been factors toward causing the quiet. Vormia Snowing- n Increase. According to the hop trade another cause for the slowness of contracts on the coming crop at this time is the In crease of vermin in the yards. This is a condition entirely unexpected even by those who have been in closest " touch with the yards. Several large growers told The Journal this morn ing that their yards were infected with - many more lice than usual. Few of : the growers are going to spray because they do not have the funds to spare and others will not spray unless con ' ditlons become radically worse. Most of them are depending upon tiie weather to kill the vermin but thtse cloudy ... days are not the best preventive. Sop Conditions Elsewhere. The New Tork Producers' Price Cur rent give the following view on the - hop situations i. "The local market continues very dull and no transactions of any Im portance are reported. Over at Po catello, Idaho, the precipitation totaled 0.22 of an Inch during the past 24 hours, and the Rrain, especially the spring sowing, was benefited to a con siderable extent. The rainfall at Lew lston, Idaho, during the 24 hours amounted to 0.08 of an Inch, and was tha smallest received In the Inland em pire. However, the rain deficiency to date in Idaho has been small. Over in Gilliam and other counties where the Brain has been starving for rains, the downpour was considerable, and there Is no doubt that the spring sowing was helped somewhat, although the rains ouia nave been rar more welcome had they arrived sooner.
