The start was nade this morning from the city hall and was witnessed by a crowd that filled city hall park and overflowed into Broadway, Chambers street and Park Row. The youthful sprinter who had tha honor of receiving the message from Mayor McClellan to be conveyed to Mayor Busse of Chicago was a repre sentative of tho Twenty-third street branch of the Y. M. C. Followed by an automobile which Is In iAmnnnr th rfAr tn I 'h I , tr r, th. young and fleet-footed runner sprinted up Broadway at a pace which left the crowd behind. At Twenty-third street he tossed the silver tube to another feet-footed youngster awaiting him there, and he in turn set out at a fly ing pace for the next half mile point. In this manner the message is to be conveyed the entire distance to Chicago. l he route or the run has been care- fullv laid out in divisions, each divis ion to be under the direction of a large city branch of the Young Men's Chris tian Association.
