IU THE OREGON DAILY JOURNAL. PORTLAND, WEDNESDAY EVENINO, JULY 15," 1008 . WORLD'S MARKETS TODAY CHERRIES I TO ATLAHTIC Oregon Lamberts Are in Liberal Demand for Small 'Packages in the East. Financial depressions are a . - i . . . tiling of the past so fur as the demand for ore trnn Aherrlea lire concerned. I'lttsbtirg. St. Paul, . hi ,-,.n r,ri In VeW York, tile lie Inand la coming for some of the selected Oregon fruit. The east und the rest of the country has plenty or irun wnm ran be called cherries, but the Oregon ljunberts and the liings are in a class ,v themselves. Thouich the rest of the fMierrv niM rket In dull Mild stagnant. there id always a call for this premier fruit, and the prices paid are sufficient to widen the eyes at growers eiKewncic. - Tine Lambert Are Coming-. - Fine quality Lamberts are now being received In the local market in uum, nou the trade is busily engaged in packing them In small boxes for parties who want to send them east to show their friends what wonderful fruit we can produce, and thus guarantee the story that Oregon cherries are as large as the ordinary plum. Mr. McEwen of MeEwen & Koskey. local commission merchants, has been bringing in large supplies of Lamberts from his place near Mount Tabor. He tales that many shipments have been made to Pennsylvania, Minnesota and other points far beyond the Rockies. While early cherries were as a rule devoid of the usual Oregon quality, the late arrivals have more than made up for any deficiency shown by the rirsi coiners. The Lamberts this season are better than ever and this is saying something out or the usual, ior every year this fruit comes In such perfection that the quality could scarcely be im proved. On account at the fine coloring and weet taBte of the Lamberts this sea son, the trade has been able to main tain the price at 10c a pound, even though the best of the Royal Anns are scarcely worth more than half of this figure. granulated. $IG; ronf A.. $6.16: extra B, IS.ttO golden O . 6 :o; K. yellow. Mr. Lorton was formerly the managing editor of the Walla Walla Union, the old paper owned, anu uirecieu uj oenaior Anaeny anu shaped by his political policies. Owing to differences of Judgment, Mr. Ankeny removed Mr. Lorton from the head of his paper end the deposed editor at once started the Evening Bulletin, which Is now the leading "Boxer" and antl-Ankeny publication of the eastern part of the state. Mr. Lorton, its ed itor, Is "fernlnst" the Ankeny ma chine, the old ring, railroad dominion and all other things of that sort, and believes that Ihe antl-Ankeny people are going to vrln the battle In the com ing election, both In the senatorial and gubernatorial contests. In the opinion of Mr. Lorton, Con gressman Jones has a good lead throughout the east side of the state over Senator Ankeny In the race for the TTnited States senate. He concedes Walla Walla to Senator Ankeny, because It Is his home town and district, but he contends that even there the Jones vote will be a surprise. Discussing the governorship, Mr. Lor lon said that he believed that Cosgrove. the most Independent and untrammejed candidate, will run far In the lead in eastern Washington, while ex-Governor McBrlde will come second ttnd Governor Mend third.
