Murphy's right-hand man, Dan Co halan, after a long-distance telephone conversation with Bryan at Lincoln, made a strwig plea in behalf of the nomination of Justice Gaynor of New York. Congressman Lamb of Indiana, one of Bryan's closest friends, said that he believed Kern would win, but he added that New York was making a strong fight for Gaynor. The Michigan delegation decided that It would cast Its 28 votes for whatever candidate was favored by the New Y'orlc and Nebraska delegations.
