The boats started from their respec tive docks at tha same time, and before any ona was aware of It they had got ten into a cluster from which It aeemed It would be difficult to get away with out damage to -some of the boats. In a couple of months the Princess Charlotte will steam around the Hern and assist the Canadian Pacific company In its pres ent struggle ' for command of Puget sound trade. The new vessel first touched the water last Saturday. She was christened by Mrs. . Marpole, wife Of the Canadian Paclflo executive as sistant. Having five, decks the ship can ac commodate majiy more than any other ship onHhe cofest and will have great er speed. The Charlotte will establish a new passenger steamer standard on the Pa cific. Canadian Pacific -officials are confident that her appearance will com pel the Inland Navigation company to give up Its rate contest between Vic toria, Vancouver and sound points. . THREE. VESSELS SPOKEN. Windjammer Coming Here Seen Off v ' , the Moroco Coaau - -Three Portland bound windjammers were spoken recently by vessels having Just reached port at different places. The reported vessels are the French bark Leon Blum, the British ship Brablocb and the British ship Carmanlan. The Leon Blum was taken for new crop wheat loading about four weeks ago. She will ston at San Francisco to deliver some general freiuht brought out from "Shields before coming here. The Blum was spoken In the vicinity of the Cepe Verde Islands on May 20, anl should be well aloru towards Cape Horn bv this time. The Brablock'wag spoken a few de grees farther north than "the Blum, in the vicinity of the Canary Islands off the Moroco coast. She Is bringing ce ment and general cargo from Antwerp. She was spoken June It. The British ship Carmanlan ' was spoken within a few degrees of the posi tion of the Brabloch. but the date is not given. It is supposed, however, that she was sighted In company with the Brabloch because she left Hamburg about the same time -that the Brabloch Bet sail from Antwerp. Tha schooner John A. Campbell cleared this morn ing for San Pedro with a cargo of 675. 000 -feet of lumber, loaded at the Tongue Point Lumber company's mill. A contract -was made today wherel-y the -Steam schooners Olsen and Ma honey will tow one of the Benson log rafts to San Diego. I The schooner W.Y T. Sir James said if his mission was successful he would arrange for improved service. Two large vessels will be built, of the same type as the Makuri, the largest of the company's fleet, under construction st Glasgow. They would replace the Aorangl and the Mnana.
