His attorneys are preparing a motion for a new trial to be submitted to Judge Cleland, numerous exceptions having oeen taken to the rulings of the court during the trial. Sill was granted a divorce from Marguerite Frances Sill by Judge Can tenbeln" yesterday afternoon on the charge of desertion. Within five year all the theatre in Portland will have to be boused in brick buildings if the plans of Build ing Inspector Dobon are carried out. At present the only hrtck theatre in the city are the Marquam and the Pantages ; reconstructed house. . The Helllg is a staff compoBition and the others are all frame buildings. The rest of the house was found to be in good con dition excepting -that the committee again registered a remonstrance against theatres In frame buildings. - At present there is no city ordinance frotecting people from overcrowding in he theatres excepting that providing that everyone shall have a feW and a half 'of floor apace. - Chairs are not allowed in the aisles, but as many per sons a the houses wish to admit can be crowded down them, provided they are standing, and - that the foot and a half of floor space per person is pre served. . .,. , . , . ...... New York, to Fortland. : The train will leave the works at Schenectady next Mondav morning, and a record run will be made overfthe New York Central, the Chicago ft Northwestern, tne union pa cific and the O. R. & N. lines.-! This is the first machine to be e cured by the Portland Railway, Light & Power company to take the place of one of the three generator self-destroyed at the company' Cazadero power house. The company's agent scoured the country for day, and could not get trace of a large generator that could be , immediately available. Yes terday a 2.100 kllowat - generator Just ilk those lost in tha Casadero disas ter was found as it wa being chipped to Japan. Tbe company got into cable communication with the Japanese gov ernment, and promptly received advice that it could have the machine. The wires were kept hot by President Josse lyn and among his old friends of the eastern railroad managements it was quickly . arranged that a speed trial would be made to get the generator to Portland in the least possible time. At Cazadero the wreckage is being removed from the power-house, and repairs are being rushed, to put every thing in readiness to receive th mi china,' and get it into Instant opera tion.
