Her husband, Frederick A. Beiers dorf, was. killed jn June 8, 1906, .when a handcar on which he and two others were riding was run down between the union depot and the steel bridge. The men were operating the car' on ? the Northern Pacific tracks and did. not see the approach of the train on the South ern Pacific! tracks, their view being ob scured by a high board fence. The plaintiff claims that the speed of the train was excessive and that no warn ing was given. .1 . , , ' School teachers who will serve the city next year will be elected at a spe cial meeting of the school board Friday morning at 10 o'slock. It is expected that several special meetings will - be held because of the large number' of teachers to be elected. Little other business was transacted by the mem bers, who held one of the shortest meet ings on record. The supply committee was instructed to purchase' 24 desks to cost $19 each, a drill press to cost IS00, a hacksaw to cost 90 and small hand tools amounting- to- $500, for the trades school that prill be opened In the Atktnson school in September. The formal mandate of the supreme court of the United States in the trial of J: N. Hecker, special assistant to the attorney-general. The mandate which sends the case here for retrial, was or dered filed. Mayor Lane vetoed an ordinance changing the names of several streets on the grounds that the names sug gested are not suitable. He mentions specifically In his message the names Claude" and "Emilia," and asks that they be rechanged. At a meeting of the ways and means committee of the city council yesterday afternoon the members decided to post- Kone action on the purchase of fire ydrants until next week, when a spe cial meet Ins; of the committee will be called. It Is probable that the commit tee win recommend to me council that Mayor Lane's advice In this matter be adopted and the hydrants purchased by the fire department. When the annual appropriations were made t the first or the year $42,000 was set aside from the water depart ment fuhd for the purchase of the hy drants.
