Water Board Declines to Use
Its Money, and Coun
cil Must Act.
At a meeting of the ways and means
committee of the city council yesterday
afternoon the members decided to post-
Kone action on the purchase of fire
ydrants until next week, when a spe
cial meet Ins; of the committee will be
called. It Is probable that the commit
tee win recommend to me council that
Mayor Lane's advice In this matter be
adopted and the hydrants purchased by
the fire department.
When the annual appropriations were
made t the first or the year $42,000
was set aside from the water depart
ment fuhd for the purchase of the hy
drants. The water board declined to
buy hydrants from its funds, contend
ing that the hydrants were a part ot
the fire department system.
