This means that practically 30o a pound Is obtained. When sold by the actual weight a lesser figure rules. . Ordinary chickens are in fair, receipt with demand along the street good to day at prices Quoted by The Journal. Turkevs are scarcely arriving at all nwl would find a good demand at high figures. Receipts of spring ducks are nominal with movtngs at high figures. Dressed meat receipts are quite good, especially as regards veal. Storage . Operations la Eggs. Storage egg operators are again At work and the input during thejpast 48 hours has been quite llboraL. . Receipts Of eggs are showing a decrease and for this reason the salable supplies are short In many places. Most of the eggs are today moving at 17V4le and this is the price today quoted by Front street merchants and The journal. An efort Is being made by one or two of the members of the board of trade to boost the commission on eggs up to 10 per cent. A petition with that purpose in view is being circulated among the commission men. Oases Production X Heavier. According to latest advices from Til lamook and other Oregon cheese cen ters, the production or cheese in this state will be somewhat heavier than a year ago. Already the make is great ly increased and in consequence local arrivals are heavier. This applies prin cipally to "Twins" as "Young Americas" are still In small supply and are quoted at a slight premium. Brief Votes of the Trade. Oranges are getting very scarce along the street , . m A shipment of bananas was reported In this morning. Oregon strawberries are still strag gling In but quality Is still poor; ber ries being mostly green. Price unsat isfactory therefore. Receipts of hothouse cucumbers are quite liberal from local placea and the market Is easier.- Hothouse lettuce Is showing fine qual ity and late arrivals have been more eagerly picked up at 111.50 a box. String beans from Brawley, Califor nia, are arriving by express daily. With fine quality receivers experience no difficulty In selling at 15o a pound. Front street sells at the following prices. As a factor toward naming accurate Quotations on fruits, produce and poul try, the Portland board of trade has eome to an untimely end. While there is a meeting of the produce interests cauea, it is not liKeiy mat many Front street merchants will respond a canvass of the situation showing but few dealers In favor of the movement For juat a short time since the ex change opened a fraction over a month ago, there was a fair amount of Inter est In the proceedings by Front street men. but of late but one, or possibly two, men in as many different illnes have attended the sessions; hence, the quotations are now the matter of opin ion of one or two men Instead of re flecting what Is actually occurring on the street On the Board of Trade today there was a good attendance of grain men, but this Is the lax time of the year for that Interest and no transactions are reported. Because of the Impossibility of secur ing accurate produce quotations at this time on the board of trade. The Jour nal has omitted them and they will not be printed again until they become rep resentative of actual conditions. In the meantime the Front street quotations will be printed as heretofore. However, the doings of the grain department of the board will be printed daily. (Special Pfapatfh to The lonrnti.) Walla Walla, Wash.. May 6. From the Interest displayed In the demonstra tion train which the O. ft. & N. started from Starbuck yesterday afternoon and whloh will be sent through the Touchet and Walla Walla valleys, several hun dred farmers will attend the two meet ings which will be held in Walla Walla, one tonight at the Commercial olub rooms, following the train's arrival at 8:10, and one. at 10:45 tomorrow morn ing at the new passenger depot at the foot of Main street. The train this afternoon is making stops at various towns in the Touchet valley, including Dayton, Waltsburg, Huntsvllle and P reb oot t and at eaeh point the lectures from the Washington Agricultural college have been enthusiastically received by farmers. ., Summer fallowing, conservation of moisture In the soil, animal husbandry, horticulture and dairying are the prin cipal, topics handled by the lecturera The exhibits carried by the demonstra tion train have, attracted much inter est among the farmers, as tntenslve dry land farming Is one of the perplexing problems facing farmers outside of the irrigated districts. Following the arrival of the train this evening an informal meeting and re ception will be held In the Commercial club room.
