But when it leached the house It was met by a flinty glance from "Uncle Joe," and Hereno Payne, Sherman, Dalsell and 'i'awney, had no words of welcome. The bill almost visibly wilted under the blight. Now the friends of the exposition are Indignant and that is probably all the good It will do them. "Uncle Joe" and the house leaders are Impervious to In dignation. Their armor belts are al ways high above the water line when It comes to repelling shafts of ebullient emotion of that character. A large crowd Is expected to hear the young man who haa been making such a whirlwind campaign since he announced his candi dacy several weeks ago. Mr. Cola addressed a large gathering of Republicans at Woodstock lust night under the auspices -of the Forty-fifth Precinct Republican club. The candi date was accorded a hearty welcome by the crowd by his clear and forcible manner In presenting his views. The speaker reiterated his promises set forth In his platform In repard to en forcing all the laws and made a favora ble Impression upon his auditors by th honesty of his motlvea In running for the distrlot attorneyship. C. Ben Riesland presided at last night's meeting; and Introduced Mrr Cole. Candidates besides Mr. Col who spoke were R. O. Morrow, candidate for judge of Department No. 2: 1. V. With the latest addition there are now five disengaged In port, the largest number early last year. The Donna Francisco left Valparaiso about three months ago unannounced, and nothing was known of her having struck out for this port until a rew daya ago, when the announcement of her coming caused no little surprise among tne snipping rraternity. Freights were quite satisfactory when the big windjammer left the Chilean port, but began to decline soon after. and have steadily been going down un til now they are hardly being consid ered by ship owners. The other disengaged windjammers In the river are the British ship Largle more, the British ship Brodick Castle, the British bark I.eyland Brothers and the British bark Crown of India. The Crown of India and Iarglemore are in the harbor, while th Brodick Castle and Leyland Brothers are still at As toria. Lumber Is offering for several ports, and in view of this being the tall end of the wheat shipping season, some of the disengaged ships will probably have to accept It or wait for new crop wheat. It is on this expected land slid that Cannon bases hfs hopes of nomination. Here Is where the Seattle men plant to secure sweet revenge at least. They aver that Cannon's action In regard to the fair mil nas aroused tho anger of the entire Pacific northwest snd that Idaho, Ore gon and Washington will see thrtr dele gations go down In the wreck of Taft's blighted ambitions rather than ever see tnem supporting uannos.
