Jennie Signers, the prosecuting wit ness, who Is 17 year of age, came near being sent to Jail for contempt of court during the forenoon because, while on the witness-stand, she tore Into frag ments a note that was handed her to contradict her testimony. She had de nied that when the defendant visited her at the hospital, following an opera tion at the X-Radium Institute, she had slipped an endearing note into his pock et. When a note was handed her and she was asked if she had written it, she angrily tore it to pieces. SALEM LINE PUT ON UNFAIR LIST At a meeting of local No. 125. Inter national Brotherhood of Electrical Worker, in Union hall, at 205 Vi Firat treet laat night, the Salem Electric railway waa voted unfair and ordered Placed on tne unfair list. The trouble between the electrical worker and the Salem road I due mainly to the lack of accommodation for the electrician along the Une of the road. The men were required to go to work at 7 o'clock in tha morning. As there were no accommodation for the men near their work, they wera forced to return to Portland every night. The first- car doea not leave Portland until t o'clock every mornlns. hence, the elec trician were forced to lose an . hour very oay. They demanded pay for thla hour as well as time , and a half for overtime. The company refused tha de mand and about one-half tha electrical worker on the Una left their Job. .
