Th Portland Railway Light A Power company is to spend all of th surplus earning above the actual operating x penee during 1908 for the various Im provements which have been oontem- flated for months. Clark, prealdent of the executive committee, who ha been in Portland several weeks, left yesterday for Phila delphia, hia home. The Insurance and Investment busi ness has proved to be sufficiently at tractive to win Joseph A. Boyce from his alleglence to the railroad bulnesa. and he has resigned from the position of contracting freight agent for the Great Northern to enter the offices of W. L. Horgan. He will be succeeded in General Agent William Harder office by John I. Springer, at present travel ing freight and passenger agent for the Great Northern. A masquerade ball will be held at Kern Park on th Mount Scott carllne tonight for the purpose of raising funds for the purchase of a chemical engine for the fire protection of the Mount bcott district.
