Klam ath county has made request through Senator Fulton and Congressman Haw ley, as well as various organizations In Klamah Falls, that a aoll survey be made of the lands coming- under the Klamath project by the government. A letter has been received from Mil ton Whitney chief of the bureau of soil survey at Washington, stating that the request would have due consideration, although no time oould be set as to the commencement or the survey on account of the vast number of requests already on file and the appropriation that has been made for such work. The matter will not be dropped, but will continue to be urged, and much hope Is expressed over the promise that has been given. COMMISSION ALLOWED TO CRUISE TIMBER j (Special Dispatch to Tti Journal.) Olympla, March 12. That county as sessors cannot prevent the cruising of timber for the purpose of determining Its assessable value if the county com missioners desire it done is the sub stance of an opinion given out by the aitorney-generai. If the assessor refuses to appoint cruisers for that purpose tho commis sioners may do so and pay them 'from county funds.
