V Yesterday morning Deputy Bherirf Grant of Yakima arrived here, he hav ing traced Nichols from Yakima to puyallup. Washington, and from there to this city. Grant had ascertained that Nichols had pawned a watch in Fuyallup and had left Instructions with the Jeweler to forward U by express ' to this city aa soon as he sent the money from here for Its redejjiptlon. Thla money had been aent and the watch forwarded on the day Grant ac- quired the information. Arrested la Express Offica. As Nichols has a start of more than l hour it in extremely doubtful if Ieputy Sheriff Grant and the Meal de tectives will be able to apprehend the man and thus repair the blunder of ' Chief Gritzmacher. The sheriff waa no tified from Olympla today that the requisition for Mrs. Annie Ppencer, pre sented by Infective Lambert or ban Krancisco, had cot been honored by Governor Mead. Mra. Spencer was arrested by Seattle detectives February 16, upon a request of the San Francisco chief of police. Detective Lambert or Han fTannsco ar rived Friday with a requisition upon the governor of this state for the pris oner. The governor refused to honor the requisition because affidavits convinced him that an attempt was belnic made to secure the return of Mrs Spencer to San Francisco for the jiun-owi of collecting a civil debt. Gllman and stepmother of Maybelle GUman-Corey, In dead at the Gilman home here. She had been an Invalid for some years. She was 43 years of age and was the mother of James M. Gilman, Mrs. Charles A. Llskey of Stockton and Ruby and Eunice May Oilman. The Gil mans were formerly residents of Sacramento and the body will be taken there for interment. Mra. The manage ment of the Northern Pacific railroad has notified all the telegraphers em ployed on the system that their wages will be reduced from $5 to $10 a month. In all probability this means a strike of these men. The telegraphers are now voting on the question of accepting or rejecting the reduction. The cut In wages Is due directly to the new federal nine-hour law, which goes Into effect March 1. As the work progresses in this city similar operations will be proceeding at Albany and after the track has been completed In the corporate limits of both cities the work of building a con necting line will be rushed.
