WANTED AT SPOKANE; AEKESTED IN PORTLAND At th request of the Spokane police authorities Detectives Hellyer and Ma loney last night arrested a man named Louis Landau, said to De wainea ior the theft of a valise and contents frtm a hotel in Spokane some weeks ago. Since coming to Portland Landau has been conducting an employment agen cy at 42 North -cond street. He sold the place a few days ago and was on the eve of leaving the city when placed under arrest. Landau claims he Is the victim of a mistake, as tho valise which he Is accused of stealing was riven him br the landlord of the ho. tel when h left Spokane and he did not discover the mistake until after he reached this city. He will be hold pending the arrival of an officer from Spokane to take him back for trial. HONORABLE JAPANESE TIIIEF MAKES HAUL The proprietor of a Japanese lodging house at 848 Couch street reported to the police this morning that an nonor- able Japanese burglar ransacked the rooms of aome of his lodeers last night and made away with 16.75 In cash and a number of articles of small value. One of the lodgers saw the burglar as he was leaving one of the rooms, but the man escaped before any ttempt could be made to effect nis capture.
