"Parsifal."
' "Paralfal," the dramatic version of
the Wagnerian oiera, is drawing tho
discriminating public to the Marquam
thia week. The company and produc
tion are even better than when the
play waa last seen In this city. Mr.
Connor and Miss Keating; continue as
Parsifal and Kundry and they are the
flneat elocutionists head here In years.
"In the Bishop's Carriage.'
The favorite attraction this
week
seems to be the Baker Stock company's
production of Channlng Pollocks "In
the Bishop's Carriage." and crowds are
flocking to see It nightly. Miss Izetta
Jewel, the new leading woman. In the

"Dora Thome" Matinee Tomorrow.
The beautiful story of Dora Thorne
Is being told again at the Umpire this
week, and never falls to find new ad
mirers. An unsually good company Is
presenting It, with beautiful scenery
and stage settings. The first act ahows
the cottage home of Dora, and the fol
lowing scenes take one to her new
home and surroundings after her marri
age to the rich man s son. There will
be matlneas tomorrow and Saturday.
West Point and Wild West.
From the military academy at West
Point to the wild west, the scenes shift
In "The King of the Cowboys," at the
Star theatre this week. It Is a play
such as President Roosevelt would de
light in, for the story is clean, tru and
strenuous. How n cadet, unjustly ac
cused, is expelled from the academy and
goes west to become a sherlfT, forms
the base of the plot. Matinees Thurs
day and Saturday.
Merry Vaudeville.
Lively vaudeville is found at the
Grand this week and every week. The
new bill started yesterday and pleased
the three large audiences wnicn nnea
the theatre to the back row. The five
musical Hawallans have a musical act
which Is a delight to all who have an
ear for melody. Tte act has a typical
Hawaiian scene, with a view of Hono
lulu harbor and a native hunt.

Benjamin F. Butler of Massachusetts
was a tireless worker when he started
on anything. He and his secretary.
Clnncy, often sat in the library until
almost daylight when the general
wanted to finish up anything.
Durlnjr the nlsrhl sessions of the sen
ate, toward a close of congress, a sena
tor called on General Butler one morn-ma-
at 8 o'clock. The same senator ,
called again when the senate adjourned
the following morning' at daybreak and
found the General and Clancy still at
work.
"Don't you ever stop?" the senator
asked.
"No," General Butler said. "Satan
finds some'mlschlef stilt for Idle hands
to do."
"General. I never knew efore Just
who my employer was," Clancy said,
bowing.
