The chief provisions of the new law are that nt Minn, n n ih. A i a Yellow I shall be permitted to frequent poolrooms UOlu. I a.nd that all minora ahnll after 10 o'clock af night The pool rooms will be compelled to close at the same hours as saloons, 1 o'clock a. m. This Is considered one of the best ordinances yet drafted for the city's morals and is expected to act as a graft preventive ox crime among young boys. Many lads have been arrested in Port land In the past few month for petty thieving and robbery whose downfall could be dlrecUy traced to the pool rooms. The boys bocame so infatuated with the games and associations found in the poolrooms 'that they soon took to stealing In order to secure money with which to pay for their games. Some of them even went so far In their efforts to illegally gain money that they held up pedestrians and entered houses. Attention was called to the existing evil by The Journal. The Congress of Mothers, the Woman's club and the Council of Jewish Women also took the matter up and councilman Beldlng framed an orainance along lines which were approved by the representatives of inese organisation. i r -AMERICAN BANK ITEM To Depositors of Oregon Trust The Evening Telegram Alone Is responsible for disturbing peaceful conditions. Personally I am ready, and have been for a month', to carry out to the letter every-promise I have made. iThe German-American Bank will more than make good its part as soon as Mr. Reed and Receiver Dev lin secure their associates and the approval qf the court. The attitude of the Evening Telegram is in elegant at this time. Everybody should boost since the court has signed the order.
