' iocai wheat values are . down 2c a bushel today , on account of the very sharp break afr Chicago and Liverpool today and during the past few days. Club Is now quoted at $2o and bluestem at 84c but this is the extreme top and It Is doubtful If any great arriount of wheat could be moved In the Paclflo northwest at this time and these values. Continued deollnes abroad Is causing export agents and'millere to go slow in tneir buying and but little wheat is re ported sold In the three states of the north coast during the past week. The fact that there la .absolutely no demand at this time for port flour adds weak ness to the . areneral market and may force wheat still lower. However, those millers who have already purchased heavily, are of the opinion that prices win go nack again. Tin dull neon in the flour market Is the theme of tho following from Editor Leo Petorson of the Portland Commercial Review: "Flour trade 1s about as dull as pos sible. Export trade . continues In the same old rut; as the seller and buyer ara too far apart to even try to get to gether.) Prices are held very firm, ow m tc the light runnlnt- of the mills. While it Is true that stocks are very light in the orient It has no signifi cance. The policy of buyers has changed In this respect. The buyers abroad are taking flour from loading export mills when they feel that they must have aomr atorlt on hand to provide for de mand, and tight money abrond and hid prices for flour' has considerable to do witn mis. Home snipmenrs are gum through r,n each steanusr. Buying from liRnd-to-mnuth always makes trade dull. Murine hleh rrlce nerlods like the pres ent, the consumer makes his purchases go farther than when it is cneap, mui ers hold prices very firm, snd In con sequence no business is done, but at the same time many or tin mills reDort a far better Inaulrv. an stocks are known to be light. There has been rumors of a little shading in prices during- mo week, ana It was imnossiDis to trace who wan doing any cutting; with tho prevailing nrlce for -whnat we cannot see where any. miller would profit by ln- ulglng in mis pastime to piaoo iiour, nlnii, h,v warn In rtea4 ft mnnnv Millars v.-ho are only In the local trade and do-not confine their operations to exportlir. say there la a better feeling In the flour trade baned on the Improved inmilry for domestic brands and tho opinion that there In a prospect of largs volume, of business. Tho business ccompllslied shows Hll;nt increase and he Ixiokinen for coastwise trade are rnhflne.l to ailrh amnll linen fla hlivnra Blaml in reed of. Still the Jobbing bUKlnen is iM-ttrr, retailers ftuylrg witn some freedom Imonuse forced to, but are not stocking up to any gmnt extent, Flour stocks all over the coast are re ported to be well depleted and this should menn new business before long. With tho wheat market going as It has been, the inquiry may not be expected in any great extent until the market gets upon a steadier basis. Liberal receipts in the northweat, reports of further heavy shipments from Argentine, another drop In the price of cash wheat and consid erably ' lower cables from Liverpool, Antwerp and Buda Pest were the early factors In causing nearly 8 cents de cline In wheat today. Another item which the bear cliques point out la the heavy falling off In the export trade. Seemingly all European markets are well supplied with wheat, and claim they are expecting even additional large shipments from Argentine. Reports from this point show heavy shipments If the weather abroad Is favorable it cannot be said of the climatlo conditions in this country. The weather through out the west haa been extremely mild. thawing by day and rreexing st nignt, which Is by no means beneficial to the arrowlnar croo. as this doea not rive it any snow protection whatever, and fur thermore mis Kind pr weatner rosters the growth of Insect life, and conserva tive houses renort they will not be sur prised to hear of many complaints of crop damage in the near future.
