Seven clubs are interested. The University Park board of trade has al ready appointed a delegate to constl lite the executive board of the pro posd association of clubs. Those clubs that will be eligible to representation on the executive board of the new federation include the Mult nomah Improvement association, the North Alblna Improvement association the Arbor Lodge Push club, the Wood- lawn Push club, tho Peninsular Push club, a Piedmont Push club, soon to be organised, and the University Park boArd of trade. It is believed by many that more can be accomplished with such an or ganization and the proposal has met with general favor among the clubs on the peninsula. The peninsula is so far away from the seat of government that unit-id action is considered more neces sary than in any other portion of the city. Sabln, chairman of the execu tive board committee on streets, in a recent interview with President Blge low of the East Side Business Men's club, promised that the Improvement of East Stark street between East Twelfth and East Sixteenth would be completed as quickly as possible. He asked the support of the east side busi ness men, which was heartily granted him and he said pressure would be brought to bear upon the contractors at once. The street has been in bad condition all winter. Tho property owners have boc.)mt-, much acitqted over the delay occasioned, they say, by the moods of the contractors. Sli.ee Mr. Sabin has expressed his in terest in tho street the property own ers are much encouraged. Stark street promises to be the central east side thoroughfare within the next three years if the improvements now under con tract can be carried out within that time. As it appears now the fills be low East Tenth street will be complet ed Ions before tho street is improved between East Twelfth and East Sixteenth. BEGIN WORK OF . . COLLECTING TAXES Washington Home Telephone & Telegranh fo. fj , ZOO-' CUUCH- JiUlLDINQ, Beginning; next Monday, the taxpayers of Multnomah county may begin the payment of the public toll charged against their property. The rolls have been turned over to Chief Depuay Mar tin in the tax department or the sher iff's office, the extension of the tax and balancing of the books having been completed yesterday, in exactly the same time as one year ago. The county court yesterday author ized the sheriff to employ not to ex ceed 30 extra deputies for the collec tion season, at a salary of not mora than 190 per month. Upon recommendation of City Engi neer Taylor, Councilman Kellaher Is preparing a resolution to be introduced in the council asking that East Morri son street be improved at once with Belgian blocks laid on a foundation of concrete from the east end of the Mor rison street bridge to the east line of Union avenue. This improvement Is the same as that recently placed on Front street and Is considered to be the only one that will stand the heavy i travel that the streets In the ware house district are continually subjected to. Councilman Kellaher said this morn ing that such a decision had been reached between himself and the city engineer and that the resolution had been orecared and would be introduced at tne earnest convenience. The introduction of street Improve' ment by resolution is the quickest method and It is thought the best way witn tne lower Morrison street improve ment, because it is the plan of the east side business men to have the street improved before the Rose Car- nlcal so the parade can be brought to the east side without being completely aesiroyea on tne streets. The Improvement of East Morrison between Union avenue and East Seventh has already been petitioned for and will De expeaitea at an early date. Councilman Kellaher has also been made chairman of the committee from the J2ast Side Business Men's club art pointed by President Biglow yesterday to act wun tne koss uarnivai commit' tee. The other members are to be se- lectea latea. PRINCIPAL PERFUMED (Continued from Page One.) It Bom the Business. Mr. E. E. Chamberlain of Clinton, Me., says of Bucklen's Arnica Salve: "It does the business; I have used it for .piles and it cured them. Used it for chipped bands and it cured them. One act was to catch the smaller boys by the seat of tne trousers ana the nane or the neck uuu iubb mem neau nrsi uown tne oase- ment stairs. This was endured until one or tne smaller Doys suffered a DroKen arm. two large boys would each take the end of a rope and run across tne school grounds, upsetting the smaiier ooys ana many times seriously iujuii)ig Burnt) oi mem. Because the principals who preceded Mr. Sherwood had been lenient with the upns of the school there grew up much issatisfaction when Mr. Sherwood on. aeavorea to enforce ojder, the parents in many cases siding with the pupils. This is Sherwood's second year at the school, however, and bis methods are generally approved ' by the people of aiount xaoor. The three boys already named took it pon themselves to administer a relink. to the principal. So they went to his nome on a roggy night, laden with an cient and noisome eggs. Feary threw peoDie against tne rear door of the rincipal's home whjch stands at 414 pencer street and awaited develon- ments. The principal opened the door euuueniy ana a noon or light revealed me reary Doy standing in the fog. Atomiser Does Zts Stunt, What do VOU Wbnt. Louis" nakori Mr Sherwood. Just then the boys began to retreat suddenly and Fearv cried, "One! two!! three! !!r and a good suit of clothes that Principal Sherwood was wearing was completely spoiled. The overdone fruit had found lta mark. The boys are being properly punished but are still in school. The principal after a conference with the parents of two of the boys decided that it was bet ter not to send them to the Juvenile court, but to administer the punishment himself.
