The finding ef the dead., body of James Phegley. the Canby man who had been missing from Ills home since Tuesday, December IT, about two miles 4 from this city yester day morning, sets at rest the numerous rumors eoncerning Ms disappearance, and felainlv shows that Mr. Fhegley came to hlB death by his own hand, and tnat death was premeaiiaiea. - Searchlna- oartles had been organised Wednesday from Aurora and Woodburn and along In the afternoon of New xeara Say tne uuggy Deionging to Mr. Phegley was found In the woods a short distance from the road, about one and in half miles from here, bv M. H. Lee cS-Cunby, who was one of the searching party. In the buggy was found a note savior.' ' this rir belonats at Canby.' and the harness and a valise containing papers relating to Mr. Phegley's business.- All these articles were covered over with an oil cloth to protect them from the rain. - As soon as the buggy was found the searching parties, headed by J. W. Cook, son-in-law of the deceased, came to the conclusion that the body was not zar orr. out as aaricness was approacn Ing It was deemed advisable to postpone further search until Thursday, when a more .thorough Investigation would be made and the ground near where the buggy .was found carefully gone over. The body was found unaer a targe iauen tree tnat airoraea shelter from the rain, and laid In nn easy position, as if the man had fallen asleep. The body was lying partially on the left side. When discovered no marks of violence were discernible on the body, and it looked like a case of suicide, as an eight-ounce bottle of Zemacol, a preparation for cure of ecxema, . was found near by, partly emptied.. Coroner dough was at once notified, but as the case looked like suicide he deputised H. A. Snyder of .this city to act In the 'matter and take charge of the remains. , v,The body was brought to the city about 11 o'ciock ana taicen to Mr. Snyder's undertaking rooms. When the clothing was removed from the body it was found that the left jugular vein had been cut and a deep stab made over the region of the heart. There was no cut through the clothing to show that any ..wounds had been made, and the head of the dead man was lying over on the left Side so that It was Impossi ble to tell that he had cut his throat when first discovered.
