W Olson, . who up till a few months ago wss her chief officer. Captain Kelly resigned his position this morning when the steamer got In from Coos bav with the intention of going to San Francisco for a vacation. Captain Olson has been w,.o tha Gray Steamship company, operators of the Alliance, for many years and la consid ered one of the best navigators on tha Pacific coast, although a young man. Hp .ailed for many rears as ehlef of fleer ' on tha Alliance, but reelgned that j position a 'few months ag to go mas ter on tha Despatch, plying between San Francisco and other coast ports. ' He re elgned that poaltlon to accept command of the Alliance and arrived - hera laat night from Loa Angeles by rail. Rupert aa mana ger. Tha first steamer has Just been bought at Cleveland, Ohio, and will be brought to this port,. It Is the A. P. Linsay, a steel and frame ocean steamer with a capsclty of 800,808 feet of lum ber and costing about IJS.00O. The vea ael will be taken out of tha lakes, down tha St. Lawrence river and thence to tha coast around' the Horn, a voyage of about 14,080 milee.
