Tha Ladles' Aid Society of ., Grace M. -E. church met Wednesday afternoon in the church, parlori and elected the fol losing officers for the . ensuing year ' President, Mrs. Judge Morelandj vice. president,- Mrs. Dearborn; secretary, Mrs,. Hard; treasurer, Mrs. Ed. Cornell. , There was considerable discussion re garding the character of the work to be undertaken by the society during the coming year, and while many plans were suggested, no definite action was agreed upon. It was decided to consider all questions pertaining to the work at the next meeting In October. The report of the various officers show the society in a flourishing condition and perfect har mony among the members. i Uf ttf tif The Christian Endeavor society of the First Congregational church held Its monthly .business meeting Monday even ing at the residence of Mr. L. F. Steel at 207 Chapman street. The member ship 'was well represented, about 35 . being 'present. Routine business was transacted, after which -the evening was devoted to social enjoyment. Mr. Ray Steel, who Is an active member of the society, as host saw that everything was done to make .the gathering pleasant. Light, refreshments -were ' served and numerous games . played until a late hour." "...' ' f Mf A pleasant social event of the week was the surprise party given to Mr. and Mrs. Fred Johnston, Monday night. at their home, 609 Mm street, me oc caslon was the celebration of their 1st wedding anniversary. , jrrienas to tne number of 26 assembled and offered their congratulations, and as a substan tlal token of their esteem presented Mr, and Mrs. Johnston with a beautiful Hav- iland china chocolate set. Mr. Johnston responded on behalf of himself and -wife, after which the evening was given up to social en joyment and a dainty supper. Pickett of Highlands celebrated the Gist anniver sary of their marriage at the summer home of their son-in-law, Mr. William Hadley, near Turner, Sunday. Among the relatives present were: Mr. Clayton C. Pickett of Chicago, Rev. Charles H. R. Scott and family of Highlands, Mr. and Mrs. Charles H. Pickett and son of Eugene, Mr. William. J. Collins, 875 East Tenth street, Thursday evening in honor of Mr. George White of St Paul. Mr. White is soloist in a prominent church in. Chicago and rendered many selections both Instrumental and vocal for i4he pleasure of the guests. After playing numerous games the guests sat down to dainty refreshments, Mr, White leaves for the East Saturday. The guests parted , wishing , him a pleasant trip. Those present were: Misses Sadie James, Mabel Mountain, Nettie May, Pearl Bishop. Mrs. Stewart, Mrs. C. M, Smith: Mrs, M. Card, Mrs. Hamilton, Mrs. E. A. Collins, Miss Collins, Miss Gladys Collins, THessrs. A very delightful "party was given et the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Turvill Spreadborough, . 94 Minnesota avenue, In honor of Miss Dearest Hayes attain ing her 18th year. The residence was very tastefully decora- -d wl-n red and white, and Oregon grape, rerns, ana hanging baskets of red and white carna rMna, etc., to match. The company numbered SO in all being friends of Miss Hayes, lue earlier part of W evening was taken up with games, etc.. and later a musical, program, given by the do Hoven quartet. After this was given the company sat down to a boun tiful supper which all greatly appre ciated. After all' having spent a most enjoyable, evening and had wished Miss Hayes many happy returns ot the day, dispersed for their homes in the early wee hours. !- it The parlors of the First Congrega tional church were crowded to - over flowing last night, by the members of the congregation, , who -were there to attend tha annual reunion and pastor's reception. A number of musical selec tions were rendered and light refresh ments served by tha young ladles of the -rhurch, - who ofnclatedratamall - tables -.throughout the rooms.
