At present thera are a treat many per sons out of tbe city who are not concern ing themselves with real estate or any ther Una ot business, but are devoting themselves to rest, recreation and enjoy ment at the seashore or in the mountains. As a consequence, there Is -aomethlng ot a lull in realty matters. . There la evident a desire of many te buy on investment, although the great portion , are buying for Immediate lm prov&ment, which la far better tor the city, aa a whole. The shortage of dwell ings in the city has a tendency to stlm Ulate the demand for them, and anything at all desirable ia quickly snapped up. Tbe delay In the shipment ot certain iron pillars necessary for the construc tion of the Failing building, baa inter rupted the matter of construction to some extent Those for the basement; are in place, and the sleepers for the floor to the first atory are laid. It will be necessary for the workmen to discontinue their labors for the present until the Dillars arrive. When they do. work on the. walls will go on. The local strikes have not only Interfered with the con struction of this building, "but those in Other parts of the country have affected it as well. It will be noticed that Monday waa the first day for a long time that not a sin ele building permit was issued. This is phenomenal, for even in the hardest times there has been at least one permit . issued. This is nut significant, however. of any dropping off in this direction, for the day following more than 110,000 waa taken out in permits. 1 A resume of the more Important real estate transfers for the first half of the week show the following: ' ' - ' A' lot m Carruthers' Addition was- sold by the Alliance Trust Company to "Laura E.
