Martin Jolmnon. 1825 Franklin avenue w 'the ccne of a beautiful IkJiiio wedding in which Miit Mary John-ion and Mr. Kdward ' ChriMlun Olnen were the participant, The Rev, BlvftMini performing the ceremony which united the live and fortune of thec yoiinu people. About one hun drcd and twenty-live gitem were prcwiit to while the happy event. The britlc was daintily gowned in white with vail anil orange blowout and carried a boniiict of white carna tion. The four bride maid Mi Hilda Strand, Mis lllinda Jlanxon, Mi Sigrid Dybvik and Mi Caro line Dyltvik alo wore white. The groom wan attended by Mr. John Walien, Mr. Albert llegg, Mr. Fred F.rlcMn and Mr. Harold Bjorg. At the close of the ceremony and after receiving the congratulation of the many gueat the bridal party led the way to the dining room where a numptuoiiH wedding repast was erv ed. Mr, and Mr. Olscn who are both well and popularly known in Astoria vill continue to make their home here, having already prepared for oc cupancy a residence on 37th itrect. On Friday evening of this week Gateway Social Club entertained with another of their delightful and very n,-ri.fiil rnrd nartics uiven in the lodge rooms of the I. 0. O. F. build' inu on Commercial and Tenth atrccts the inclemency of the weather the attendance was excep tionally good, over one hundred guests being present. Twenty-five table were filled with players, the playing continuing until 10:30 o'clock when the prizes -were distributed, Mr. Warmer winning the ladies' first prize and Miss Mary Gregory the second. Messrs. William Mehan and Arch McLean cut for the gentlemen's first prize, Mr. Mehan winning. The Kentlemcn's second prize was won by Dr. Ball. Refreshments consisting of coffee and cake were served and the remainder of the evening spent in dancing and having a social time. The Ladies' Aid Society of the First Presbyterian Church will be en tertained on Tuesday afternoon of next week by Mrs. 11. J. Whcrity at her home on Fourth street. Mrs. C. R. HiKKins will have charge of theJ program which will consist of voca and instrumental music. Selected reading and addresses relative to tli missionary work being carried on i foreign countries. The subject for study and discussion this month is Porta Kico. The Six-Handed Euchre Club mem hers have closed their season of amusement by issuing a number of in vitations which read as follow; "You arc cordially invited to accompany the euchre club on their first pleasure tour starting at Logan's Hall Thurs day evening. May 21, 1908, at 8:30 o'clock sharp." The invitations spca tor themselves and those wlio are fortunately included among the list of guests arc assured of an evening of delightful entertainment. Mrs. Clara P. Hobscn, Mri, Minnie Gregg and Miss Mary E. McCrea delegate from Gateway Rebckah Lodge No. 77 to the State Encamp ment of Odd rcllow and Kcbcka lodges which convens in Salem Tues day morning, May 19th, at 9 o'clock and continues for three day will leave on Monday morning for Salem to be present at the opening scs sion. Miss McCrea will be the guest durinit her stay in Salem of her friend, Miss Rcbah Cans and on leav mg there will go to heattlc tor a week's visit with her cousin, Miss Olive Burkcbilc and witness the re ccption tendered the fleet by that city. On Friday evening, May 22, "A Musical Entertainment and Laughing Carnival" will be given in the Na lional Association Hall of Upper- town by the pupils of the High School assisted by the Faculty. . The pro cecds will be used for the benefit of the debating team and judging from the success of former entertainments given by the students, this one is bound to be an extremely successful affair. The best of local talent has been secured to assist with the pro gram and following is a partial list of the entertainers. At Logan' Hall on last Monday evening the Knights of Pythias and the Pythian Sister gave a "Get-to gethcr social which was extremely successful. A very pleasing program in which many participated was ren dcrcd. Franseen' orchestra furnished excellent music. Mr. Fred Johnson had charge of the entertainment and vocal and instrumental selections were given by the Misses Uirdie and Louise Wise, Gertrude Morton and Clara Larscn. Mr. C, I), Stewart gave sev eral mandolin selections and Mr, Wm. Gratke sang. Mr. Charles Cratkc also contributed towards the prosrram, while the addresses of the evening was delivered by Mr. J. R. Gratke and Manager J. If. Whyte of the Cham ber of Commerce. Those winning prizes in the contests were Mr. An derson and Mrs. Danielson and Messrs. L. A. Larson and Chris Lar son. Alter the serving of the re freshments the orchestra furnished music for dancing until a late hour. The members of Fern Chapter Eastern Star held a very enjoyable mcctiilg, Monday evening in their lodge roms on Commercial and Ninth streets. Mrs. Christine Carlson delightfully entertained a large circle of friends and acquaintances, many of whom were the Lady Maccabees and number of Degree of Honor members on Thursday afternoon and evening at her home on Franklin avenue. A quiet wedding occurred in the parlors of the Astor House on Fri day afternoon of this week when Miss Winnie Gregson and Mr. Frank Boycc, both of Seattle, were united in marriage. Ihe Kev. Estes entertained a number of young married ladies yes- rday afternoon in honor of her (tighter, Mrs. Dicble, who has just returned from Chicago. ., The ladies brought their sewing and spent the ftcrnoon in a charmingly social way. The Misses Holmes were hostesses on Tuesday evening of this week at eir Uppertown residence for a very enjoyable meeting of the D. M. C. D. Club. The Monday Club members were pleasantly entertained this week by Mrs, D. M. Stewart at her home on Franklin avenue. Franklin avenue and Fourteenth. Mrs. Lincoln Parker and daughter, Miss Mary of Fern Hill, spent Thurs day in town, shopping. Mr. and Mrs. Astor Seaborg, Miss Ida Williamson and Messrs. Kenneth Goulter, Nort and Hammer of Ihvaco spent last Sunday afternoon in As toria, attending the performance of "Dora Thome" at the opera house during the evening. Hamilton Garner, a Stanford Uni versity student, arrived home Wed nesday evening to spend the summer with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. D. Garner. Mrs. Gertrude Osborne of La Grande who was a visitor the past week with Mrs. A. A. Douglas has gone to Warrenton to visit her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. J. Brallier. Mrs. J. E. Ferguson entertained about a dozen lady friends on Thurs day afternoon of this week at her home on Kensington avenue in honor of her mother, Mrs. Hawthorne. The ladies spent the time in a pleasant social manner and dainty refresh ments were served during their stay. Mrs. Ferguson is planning to give a series of afternoons "at home," the next to be the coming Monday. Mrs. Lancaster entertained on Fri day at her home on Irving avenue, the "Jolly Bees" who spent the even ing in social conversation, music and playing games, dainty refreshments being served during the time. Mrs, II. Sparde will entertain the members of the Ladies' Guild Society of the Norwegian-Danish F. E. church the comma Tuesday after- noon. Court Astoria, Foresters of Amer ica, entertained on Wednesday even ing in I. O. O. F. lodge rooms with cardy party. Five hundred was played during the early part of the evening, Miss Anna. Wilson winning the ladies' prize and Mr. Howard Pcnnel the gentleman's prize. After the serving of the refreshments danc ing was engaged in until a late hour. , The delegates from Beaver Lodge, I. 0. 0. F., to the encampment at Salem arc Judge Olaf Anderson, John Hahn, W. A. Goodin and E. C. Younce, who leave on Tuesday morn ing to be present at the opening ses sion on Wednesday. Mrs. Bertha Holmes will leave Tuesday morning for Salem to visit relatives and to attend the State En campment of Rebekahs. Announcement has been made of the wedding of Miss Eva Parker of Skipanon and Mr. George Smith of this city which takes place on Wed nesday, June 3rd. Mrs. Edwin R. Blair entertained the members of the Thursday afternoon club at her Tongue Point home this week. Dr. Steadman will entertain a party of friends next Tuesday and Wednes day at Fort Stevens. The Ladies' Guild of the Grace Episcopal Church held a very suc cessful sale of aprons and home cook ed dainties yesterday afternoon in the vacant, room next to the Star Theatre. Mrs. C. II. Callender has gone to Spokane to visit her sister. Mrs. Paul Badollet is enjoying a visit from her father, Mr. J. D. South- erland of Portland this week. Mrs. V.
