Paton, Editor "The World's Hope," Almont, Lapeer Cc Mich, In 2. Cor. v. 10, Paul says: "God was in Christ reconciling the world (not the church) unto himself, not imputing their trespasses (sins) unto them." , To be reconciled is not a forced subjuga tion, but to come into loving harmony. The Lord subdues his enemies by win ning them to be friends. This recon ciliation of the world was first wrought out in tho Person of Christ "the Head of every man," and later, it is done in each one personally, by the inworking of tho Holy Spirit that cam as the result of bis victory and ascension to tbe Father. The apostle tells us that by the cross the enmity was destroyed, and both Jew and Gentile (the world) reconciled to God. Epb. ii. 13-17. Peter learned this same lesson in the vision recorded In Acta x. WThen he refused to eat the unclean beasts as he was com manded, tho voice from heaven said; "What God hath cleansed, call not thou common." Ver. 15. It is evident that the unclean beasts in the legal system represented men, as Fetor understood the cleansing to apply to men, for after ward he explained to Cornelius the effect the vision bad on him: "God bath shewed me that I should not call any man common or uncloa?." Ver. 23. TMhat.waa thus done in Christ ex presses God's purpose for the world, for whom Christ died and rose. In Collos- aians 1. 20, that purpose is expressed to reconcile all things unto himself. In Ephesians 1. 10, we are told that all things sliall be gathered together in Christ. In Plillltppiang it. 9-11, we see that Jesus humbled himself, even to the death of the cross, and "was therefore highly exalted (lifted up), that to him every knee should bow, : and every tongue confess Wm Lord; and only by the Holy . Spirit can, they do this 1. Cor. xil. 3. Jesus himself expressed this truth when haWd: ' "I, If I be lifted up (highly exalted) will draw all unto ino." John xil. 32. He gave himself a ransom for all, and therefore will have all saved and brought to the knowledge of the truth, which is eternal life. John xvli. 3; l.i Tim. i. 18; ii. 4-0; iv. 0, 10. ; The grace (loving favor) of God brlngeth salvation to all. Titus ii. 11, Secretary Wilson says.
