Mrs. Pohl and daughter were in town from Svensen yesterday. b. E. Barmo of Seattle was in the city yesterday on business. A large number of soldiers from the forts were in town yesterday. J. C. Swope of Portland spent New Tear's with his family in this city. Malcolm Barger of the A. & C. staff In this city spent Sunday In Portland. Dr. Whitney, a councilman from Portland, was a visitor in Astoria yes terday. Arthur LIberman returned yesterday from Seattle, where he has been on business. Miss Edieth Butts is spending a few lays in Portland, visiting the family of Captain and Mrs. Hackett of that city. C. W. Knowles and wife of Portland are occupying their cottage at Seaside for a week. A large number of Astorians passed New Tear's day with friends and rel ations in Portland. The officers on the revenue cutter Perry entertained a number of visitors yesterday and Sunday. Lester Johnson, son of Chas. R. John son of Chinook, left yesterday for Pull man to attend school. C. E. Rrunyon returned to Portland on last night's train, having concluded his labors before ehe cidcult court here. J. Wesly Ladd and wife and a party of prominent Portland society people are stopping at the Hotel Moore, Sea side. Miss Fay Hill, who has been visiting her parents at Warrenton has returned to Corvallis, where she is attending school. Mrs. Daniel Reiman and the Misses Reiman, who have been spending the holidays with friends at Skipanon, have returned to Portland. Jack Johnson has returned from a trip to Rainier, where he went to close up a shooting lodge or which be is a member. He had about 30 ducks on his return so he says. Judge T. A. McBride went to Port land Sunday morning after closing the session of the circuit court.
