Falkenberg, who has Just been elected president of the National Fraternal Congress at Its session In St. Louis, which body represent. 4,800,000 members of fraternal Insur ance societies of America,' was born In Indiana in 1857. He is a son of the Rev. S. B. Falkenburg, a Methodist di vine of that state. At a student he graduated with high honor, in collegl ate classical and collegiate courses. He was admitted to the bar of the) supreme court In the state of Indi ana In 1879, after passing an examina tion before a board composed of Gen. Benjamin Harrison, Gen, ' Thomas Brown and MaJ. Jonathan "W. Gordon. He resigned from the practice of law in Indiana to become auditor of th Toledo, Cincinnati ft St Louis rail road. This position he later resigned to become secretary and treasurer of of Chicago'. ' largest publishing houses. Later he entered the fire insurance business in charge of sub-agency ac counts for thirteen northwestern States. This he folowed for two years. He then moved from Chicago to Lin coln, Nebraska, where he conducted a wholesale book and stationary busi ness. '' .
