Phone Main 121 SCORES OF NEW EVIDENCE Pnrtlal List of the Now'Under Construction in Var ious Parts of Astoria. Evidence of the fact that Astoria Is growing rapidly la seen In the large number of homes which are being built this fall. The houses are almost all to be homes of working men the bone and sinew of the community. In gen ral they are being substantially, though not expensively, constructed. Taylor's Astoria. In Taylor's Astoria the greatest ac tivity In building lines Is seen. Here It seems that almost everyone Is build ing, and nearly every man builds his own house, with the help of some of his neighbors. The houses which are going up In that part of town are all of frame, most of them two-story, and will be substantially built. The resi dents of Washington avenue are busy raising their street and making the Incline more gradual. Everybody is working. At the west end of Taylor's addition, on Alameda avenue, Frank Oatmnn, n fisherman, is building a substantial two-story house. The building will be completed In a few weeks. Next to Ostman, on the same side of the street, is a new house which was built last spring' by Emil Eskels, The house Is of two stories. Across the street John Erlckson Is building a frame house which will cost In the neighborhood of $2000. The house will be of two stories and an attic, and Is well along toward com pletion. Henry Larson, who Is building small two-story house east of John Erlckson on Alameda avenue, will soon have a good home.- Frank Nlemi's new house will be of one and a half stories, 33 feet long by 24 wide. He Is building- It himself. Next to Nleml. on the hill above Al ameda avenue, August Thompson has a square two-story frame house half completed, and Is living with his fam ily In the finished portion. He will complete the building after he has fin ished other work which he has on hand. August Thompson has a square two- story house half completed. The build ing Is of frame. J. W.Vngberg has about finished ad ditions and Improvements to his house located on the north Bide of Alameda avenue. He has added a room and made Interior alterations. Across the street from Angberg. Moses Totvonen Is making an addition to his home, 250 Alameda avenue. John TIenhaara, who formerly lived at 115 West Bond street, has moved to a new house, located on the side hill south of Alameda avenue. His house is a story and a half, built. of wood. Jacob Jackson and a force of four men are busy building the foundation of a new house which Mr. Jackson In tends to rent. The house will be of two stories, built substantially of wood. Union Town. In Union town proper there is also considerable building going on, but 1m provements In this vicinity are not as numerous as In the newer Taylor's Astoria. Zachary Suomela Is building a frame house on Flavel street which he will occupy himself. The house, which will cost In the neighborhood of $1500, will be finished by Christmas. On Bond street, next to his saloon at No. 213, J. Hendrlckson Is building a $2000 ' two-story frame building, the lower story of which will be used for a saloon and the upper story as a fiat. Charles Bernu Is building a frame house on Bond street, next to No. 129. John Carlson's house at 99 West Bond street has been materially Im proved by an addition to Its rear. In Central Astoria. T. O. Trullinger has moved his two- story frame house from the corner of Astor and First streets up to Bond street. The work was done by Birch and Jacobson and involved considerable labor and mechanical skill,' as the house had to be turned around and raised 37 feet. At the corner of Sixth and Bond streets, facing Bond street, F. I. Dun bar Is building two small frame houses which he will rent. The houses are to be similar in construction and sub stantially built Rudolph Basel has almost completed the outside work on his new apartment house at the corner of Sixth and Com-1 mercial streets. In the central part of town south of the business section there Is compar atively little building going on. The only house of any pretentions being built In this part of town Is the new BUILDINGS OF PROSPERITY Houses Which Are home of Attorney Frank Spittle, which Is boliiflf erected on Irving avenue, be tween Sixth and Seventh streets. The house will be a frame structure, two stories In height, and square In do sign. The outside work Is about com ploted. Oust Carlson, foreman at Linden- berger's cold storage. Is building I handsome residence on Franklin ave nue near Third street. O. C. Puluiberg is the contractor, E. Peterson Is building an addition to the rear of his residence at the head of Sixth street and making other tin provements. Frank H. Newhall's house at 47" Sixth street Is being Improved by the addition of new gutters. Uppertown Growing. In Uppertown the sound of the hum mer and saw Is 'heard on every side The houses being erected In this part of town ore possibly rather more pre tcntlous than those In process of con structlon In the west end. Most of them are to be the homes of the men who are acting as their own architects and contractors In other words, men who live by the honest sweat of their brows. One of the more pretentious resi dences In Uppertown will be the home of John Itcrsky. wiiu Is building the house himself. It Is to be a two-story building of the square type, located In the rear of Grand avenue, near Twen ty-nlnth street. Henry Kauitpl. who lives at the head of Twenty-ninth street, Is build Ing a concrete foundation under hli house and making an addition to the rear. A sauare. two-story frame house Is being erected by Emanuel Maunuln at (he corner of Thirtieth street and Grand avenue. On the same corner, facing Cirand avenue, Andrew Olson Is building a house of two stories and a basement which he will occupy. At Thirty-third street and firnnd avenue, facing Thirty-third street, Timothy A. Leahy Is building a sub stantial residence. The outside work is already completed and the house will be ready for occupancy In a month. On Thlrty-Beventh street, between Commercial and Duane streets. Otto Dufner will have a two-story frame house. The work is completed with the exception of finishing oft the In terior. Adolph Svenson Is building n two- story house at Furty-thlrd and Bond streets. The house will be ready for occupancy In a month. At Bi'nd and Forty-fourth streets John Itlsvlk's new home Is almost com pleted. In the rear of Mr. Rlsvlk's house, there are two other smaller houses be Ing built. William Wuhlgren Is build Ing one of these and Alfred Peterson the other. Both will be finished In a month or six weeks. Alderbrook. Alderbrook is a flourishing commun ity and Is making a healthy growth, as Is evidenced by several new houses in process of erection. On Cdlar street Charles Marra Is building a substantial eight-room house of the square type. John Housen is building a large two story frame building on his lot. The building will be used for a cigar and confectionery store, part of Its space being reserved for living rooms. William Balo, who completed the first story of his house lest fall, Is fin tehing cif the upper portion of the house. On the hillside south of its yards, the Tongue Point 'Lumber Company Is building three houses similar In ap pearance which will be rented to em ployes. A FACT PROVEN.
