FISHERMAN RUN DOWN BY STEAMER POTTER Nineteen- Year-Old Boat Poller Is Drowned Responsibility Not Yet Placed. Last Sunday evening, while returniijg irom North Beach, the T. J. Potter ran Into a fub boat and the boat puller, Henry Ileml. was drosnsd. The steam er's search light wst not in working order, and the fishing boat did not carry any lights, so the steamer was almost onto the fishermen before it was sighted' It teems thst tbs fishermen, John Wil son and Henry Hcmi, were banting in their net; they had one-half of it in the boat before they taw the steamer, one of the Potter't wheel caught the other part of tbe net and "it wat quickly wound aronnd tbs wheels and drawing the boat io toward it When Wilson and Hni saw this danger tbey jumped from their boat, fiemi jumping first. At tbe mo meut, tbe Potter was stopped, so the boat wat not damaged to any great ex tent. It wat picked np by the Potter, and brought to the city. When seen by an Aslorian reporter yesterday afternoon, Wilson was bail ing the water oat of his unlucky boat. He had a severe cut on tbe bock of bit neck, which lis received while swimming after jam ping from hit boat. Besides the loss of hit friend and boat puller, Wilson lost a new net that cost bim 1200 and the boats oars and tail. He was feeling pretty blue. He did not under stand bow bis young partner was killed, ss Herai was tbe first into the water and therefore farther away from the Potter's wheel.'; At soon as tbe cries for help were heard, life preservers were thrown in the direction from which tbe cries came. Captain Turner, of the Potter, ttatea that it wat impossible to tee the fishers at all, since it did not carry a light John Wilson says that he taw the steamer coming, and bod pulled out of her course, but suddenly she shifted and came tear ing down toward bim. Then it was that Hemi jumped, and Wilson, seeing the great danger, followed. Owing to the darkness they were noable to keep near each other. Tbe responsibility for the accident baa not yet been placed, When the body of Henry Homi is re covered an inquest will be held.
