CHICAGO, Aug. 2 The police have arrested Mr. Neel Camp bell, of 655 Grand avenue, on a charge of allowing her infant to die from starvation. It is alleged that within the last throe years, eight other infants have been buried from this "woman's house. The as sertion that eigllt children have died in the house ' was made by Viola Campbell, 14 years old. There is no evidence against Mrs. Campbell save that of the girl, but Police Inspector Wheeler believes the story, and says that the bodies of the children that have died will be exhumed in order to determine the number. The options which M. J. Kinney held on the property reaching the inland from Coos Bay was taken up today and Kinney made the first payment. The property includes 97,000 acres of timber land. The price r aid is said to be near $600,000 The Great Central Land Co., today made the first payment on 840 acres of land between Empire City and Marshfield- These transac tions are thought to have been in connection with the proposed rail road from Coos Bay to Salt Lake. Bryan this afternoon discussed "Problems of Government " Bryan prefaced the address by a de nial thnt he again seeks to become the national standard-bearer of the Democratic party. He said "I hope you will give me credit with possessing a higher ambition than' that to be had with the office of the president of the United Slates. I am too democratic to covet an ambition that only a few in one generation can share. I prefer the honor of being a private citizen an honor groater than that of king." REPUBLICANS OF SOUTH BAR NEGROES BIRMINGHAM, Ala., Aug. At" the meeting of the State Re publican Committee today at which it was decided to nominate the full ticket, a resolution was adopted which it is claimed will practi cally deprive the negroes of representation in the party. After tbe completion of tbe roadbed three months will be required to lay the track and put It in shape. Rrolar run ning of tbe trains will begin about Au gust next. SHENANDOAH IS PEACEFUL. SHENANDOAH, Fa, Aug. 2.-The week closed without the slightest indica tion of disorder.
