' ' The Health Department of New Tork haa seized a quantity of so-called cheap baking powder, which It found In that city. Attention was attracted to It by the low prlc at which it was being sold In the department store. Sample wen taken and the chemist of the Health Department reported the stuff to be "an alum powder," which analysis showed to be compos ed chiefly of alum and pulverised rock. " The powder was declared to b dan gerous to health, and several thousand pounds wen carted to the offal dock and destroyed. ,. ; , .
