''Sings the maiden In the song. She will not sing It today, for she Is going with Johnny and she will know why he 6tays and she will not blame him. The fair' the thing. The exposi tion at Portland Is the attraction for Astorlans today, for today and tonight are set apart by the management as Astoria's own partic ular time. Astoria night will eclipse all other nights in the exposition's history. All the regular features will appear at their best and besides, there will be numerous other attractions, really and truly attractions, secured by tbe management for this one night only. There has been no desperate effort made to drum up a crowd no per sonal solicitations, no special rates (for indeed rates are "special" enough j as they are.) The Invitation has slm-1 will add to the enjoyment of the trip, Everybody Is assured of a good tlme.j It I well to remember that the train wil not end its Journey at the Union depot when ft reaches Port land but will iconttnue up through Fourth street to Washington. This is a convenience that will be appre ciated. If the weather is at all favorable at the next regatta meeting the vis itors fnvii Portland will be numbered by the thousands. They will be heanlly welcomed. Indeed their pres ence makes or mors to a great degree the success of th? Astoria regatta. And when Portland Invites Astoria to be her guest for one day It is as little as a loyal Astr1an can do to at least treat the Invitation courteously, even If he cannot attend. Going to the fair will be a pleasant way in which to serve one's town. It will be bread cast upon the waters. And while doing It one will feast on cake. So Its off for the fair today.
