Lawrence, who Is in a criti cal condition at the Granite City hos pital following an attack of paralysis which occurred recently, is slightly improved and hopes are held out for his recovery. It There are 1,615 children of school age In Medford, according to a re cently compiled census. There are 1,332 In Ashland. This gives a fair basis for a comparison of the actual present population of the two cities. Medford has 140 less than last year, while Ashland has 23 more children of school age. This organization was through Ashland on Sunday, July 11, and it will be re membered that Mr. Norris had ar ranged to take them out to the springs, but owing to the rain which fell on that date they were brought to the park and around the drive. There were 150 people In the party. Ashland is the only place on the Southern Pacific mentioned after leaving Sacramento. The resolution reads as follows: "Whereas, we, the members of the Cincinnati Retail Grocers' Panama- Frisco Club, fully reallzing'that no inconsiderable part of the pleasure and enjoyment connected with our recent trip to San Francisco and re turn was due in a great measure to courtesies extended to us by the sev eral organizations in the cities of Kansas City, Colorado Springs, Salt Lake City, Los Angeles, Redwood City, Santa Barbara, Sacramento, Ashland, Hood River,- Tacoma, Seat tle, Spokane, Butte, Miles City, Min neapolis and Milwaukee, "Therefore be it resolved, that we tender to the various organizations in the above named cities our sincere appreciation and our most hearty thanks for the many favors received, which were on so magnificent a scale that their pleasant memory will re main with us so long as life Itself, and we, each and all, hereby pledge ourselves and our heirs forever to full and complete payment of the debt we owe should opportunity ever present. Tho county and city police officials throughout Jackson county are busy trying to locate a car and its driver which; smashed a buggy to smith ereens on the Pacific Highway Satur day night and left without so much as stopping to see if anyone was. hurt. A man and woman were in the buggy and were thrown out but escaped un injured. They describe the car as beuig a big gray runabout and said it was from Ashland, but there is no gray runabout owned in the city which can not be accounted for at the time of the accident, which was about 10 o'clock. E. Davis jumped the track at a derailing switch in Sisson a week ago Sunday, decided that tbe accident was due to the switch being thrown by some un known person while switching was undor way. Last Friday the patrons of the reading room num bered 62, the largest ever recorded, and Saturday the circulation reached its highest point with 186.
