Professor Hodge Is in charge of this work this year. Sev enteen have enrolled. The boys who have signed up are Q. Pbipps, E. Ab bott, G. Gunter, F. Lane, G. Dalzell, R. Badger, J. Clary, A. Redifer, D. Lowe, C. Summers, A. Leavitt, H. Prescott, H. Frohbach, C. Kirk; the girls, V. Hanratty, D. Edwards, G. Roberts. The statement of the ques tion to be debated on is: "Resolved, that we should adopt the essential features of the Swiss military system and training." The same subject is used all over Oregon and most of the material used comes from the state universities. The class until last Friday has had no real debates. Time was needed in which to get material for them. The first tryout will prob ably come at the first of next year. There was much excitement in the commercial law class one day last week. Two young so-called men were deeply engaged In a game of poker under the table when one of them dropped several cards, which Professor Hodge promptly confiscat ed along with the rest of the deck and part of the players' deportment. The other interesting happening was a very heated argument between Charlie Brady and Cleo Kirk. The subject of the dispute was that the millionaires ruled America. Brady loudly upheld the affirmative and Kirk Just as vociferously championed the negative. They were preparing to go at each other with tholr fists when Professor Hodge stepped In. A chunk of cement which became lodged In a drain while the high school was under construction caused much trouble last week. Leaves had come down from above and finally they had entirely closed up the drain, which overflowed and flooded the gym floor. It had to be dug up, and as the chunk of cement was about ten feet underground it was rather hard to get at. Among the things found In the drain were about six ten nis balls which had been thrown on the roof and rolled down before any one could get them. The University of Oregon Y. M. C. A. basketball team will play the high school team in the high school gym Thursday evening, December 24. The Y. M. C. A. team is composed of some of the best players of the university, and no doubt there will be a good display of basketball. From all reports the Oregon Trail Girls are a pretty live bunch. Their activities range from breakfasts to Indoor, feminine football. Basket ball Is the chief occupation of most of them, which they take In heavy doses. Once In a while they intro duce, a little baseball for a change. Tukc Advantage of an Ashland Citi 1 zoii'h K.vi'i'rieiice.
