While the frost danger has not passed by any means, there is reason to believe that there will be no "freeze," and present smudging facilities can take care of any reasonable drop in tem perature. With March passed with out any material damage, the con sensus of opinion among local ranch ers is that there will be little frost damage this season, although this feeling has not lessened the prepara tions to fight frost, by any means. The largest previous pear crop in the history of the valley was that of 1913, when 435 cars were shipped. According to conservative estimates there will be at least 700 cars of pears shipped in 1915. Many ranch ers predict 800 a jump to nearly twice, the former record. The Yellow Newtown crop looks a trifle short this year, and as the young trees coming into bearing are mostly pears the apple increase will be relatively small. In 1913, 561 cars of apples were shipped. This number will probably not be exceed ed if it is reached in 1915, but the total in all probability of pears and apples will reach at least 1,200 cars, while the more sanguine predict 1,500.
