Too many are Inclined to dump garbage In alleys, and where that Is not con venient dump it in some handy cor ner of the 'lot, there to sour and breed disease. I have had some such places to clean up since getting home, and the smell from such heaps Is any thing but pleasant. I consider them far from ornamental or healthful. I realize that many of these things are done thoughtlessly. I at one time thought It nice to have a barrel placed handy in which to throw old cans, and when I came to empty It, some of them, in which had been left milk or greasy vegetable matter, smelled like old carrion. So I have made It a rule to bury old cans and rubbish of that sort as fast as they accumulate. When one visits such places aa Long Beach, Whittler and Pasadena, and sees the well-kept lawns, streets and sidewalks, it is a sort of inspira tion to go home and do likewise. Nature has done so much for us that we can make it a place of health and beauty whether we make It a health resort or not. The taBk will not be so great If each one lends a helping hand. It is an old proverb, well worth remembering, that "Cleanli ness Is next to Godliness." So let us not do anything carelessly that will endanger the health or happiness of our neighbor. n. L. GLENN.
