"Coine pe out from among them, and be ye fparale. taith the Itirtl, and touch no nu cha thing." I Corinthian t:n. IIIN Atirahnm wns ninety- nine yearn old in 1!. C his encampment was at Hebron. Tliere the Lord and two angels appeared to biin as men. lie knew them not, but enter tained them. (Hebrews 13:2.) The une called the Iord was doubtless the Lokob, subsequently man's Redeemer. The Ixrd on this occasion told Abra ham that Ishninel would not be the heir of the l'romise. but that shortly Sarah would have a sou. The uext year Isaac was born. As Abraham walked a little distiuce with his visitors, he learned who taey really were, and that the destruction of Sodom was lin uilnent Nobly aud Kenerously he peti tioned God's Mercy on the Sodomites. The Iord guve as s u r a ii c e that If there were even ten righteous In Sodom, It would le spared. Thus of the 'So domites aud the "Sarah thall have antediluvians God made Illustrations of the great lesson, "All the wit ked will He destroy." We are to remember that these are not Il lustrations of eternal torment, but of destruction. These merely passed Into destruction n few years sooner than ordinarily; for the death sentence passed upon humanity in Adam. Hut since ,"Josus Christ by the grace of (Jod tasted death for every man," all of Adam's children will eventually come from the tomb. "And Delivered Righteous .ot." St. Peter Informs us that Lot was not in. sympathy with his surround ings. (2 I'eter 2:7, 8.) The flight of Lot, with his wife and two unmarried daughters, is simply told in our lesson. The intimation of verso 29 is that God's Mercy toward Lot was because of his relationship to Abraham. This view is consistent with all Scriptural statements on the subject Adam's entire race wos condemned to death In him. Hence Divine Justice owed them nothing. Divine Mercy had entered Into a special Covenant with Abraham, but that Covenant extended to none others, except Abraham's Becd. Therefore Lot's relationship to Abra ham was the only reason why God should favor him. Wite Ideas f o Moving Picture Plays YOU 8 NATIONAL AUTHORS' INSTITUTE "There's a Widenesa In God's Mercy." . This does not signify that God is merciless, hut that, having provided a way by which He will exercise Mer cy, He rarely exercises it outside of that channel. The channel of God's Mercy Is Christ .lesus. who declared. "No man conieth unto the Father but ! by Me." St. I'eter substantiates this I statement. See Acts 4:12. The Serljr ! tures clearly teach that none were saved until Jesus died. This is the key which unlocks the wonders of God's grace even though to some the : statement may seem astounding. We should riil ourselves of the thought that the holy men of the past I went to Heaven, and the remainder of I mankind to eternal torture. The 151- ble most distinctly declares that all, I both good and bad, "slept with their j rubers." They still sleep, awaiting ; the time whe-i Abraham's Seed (Gala I tlans :::1i. li!) will be completed, and I ret n; O'l's Kingdom on earth, over-' tlr-v.v Kin mid death, and deliver the wiptlvos from the tomb. The First, or Chief Resurrection, The First Resurrection began with our Lord Jesus and is not yet com plete; for all the Elect are to share both Ills sacrificial death and His Res urrection. These will reign with Christ a thousand years, and as the Seed of Abraham, fully empowered, will bless all those redeemed by the precious blood of Calvary. Revelation 20:4. St. Tnul emphasizes this point in He brews ll:o8-40. declaring that while the Ancient Worthies received Indlca- tlons of God's fa vors, nevertheless that favor can come only through Christ. Conse quently they can not reach everlast ing life until the Spiritual Seed of Abraham shall have Ihhmi complet ed. Jesus also at tested that they had not gone to "No man hath as-ven."-John 3:13. The hope of the world is the Messianic Kingdom, and the deliverance from sin and death which It will effect. The basis of hope for both Church and world Is the one sacrifice at Calvary. Jesus declares that it will be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrah in the Judgment Day (the thousand years of His reign I than for those of His day who rejected Him.
