He was christ ened Joseph Fairchlld Hosiler. Mr. Hostler is an ex-service man having belonged to the First 166 Infantry. He ' was severely wounded at the great battle of Chateau Thery by a rifle bul let which rendered him a cripple for life. Miss Alma Ross returned to Siletz Accompanied by a friend, Miss Bertha Whltlock a commercial teacher in the 0. A. C. Miss Whttlock returned to ber work Monday. Miss Ross -will remain with her father and .mother, Mr. and Mrs. Ross for Bome time. She will take a much needed rest from a long term of teaching In the Ashland public schools. Thanksgiving was a great day at Siletz. The ladles of the Aid Society; prepared a fine chicken dinner a din. ner that would mease the tastes of a queen. Teddy Henry left for a trip to Siletz Wednesday. J. E. Wilson went to Toledo Friday returning Saturday. Mrs. Emma Wood, Mrs. U. G. Hart and Mrs. Lydia Davis came up from Toledo Sunday to attend the funeral of Mrs. J. E. Wilson. C. S. Wilson came up from his ranch near Toledo Sunday. Mrs. W. Johnson mada a trip to CorvalliB nnd back recently. Mrs. Mabel Jacobson of Pioneer has . been visiting with her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. W. N. Cook. - o SOUTH BEACH The Literary Society met at the liome of Wm. Dozler last Tuesday venlng, the program consisted princi pally of music and select readings after which they Indulged in a few fames. A good time wus had. King of Euhl, Idaho, arrived at South Beach Mon day for an Indefinite time. A progrr.m is being mapped out for tho improving of the road betwoen Waldpoit and Tidewater much of which lies within the Nation al Forest. Under the arrangement tho county will pay one-fourth and the state and forest Bervice will pay the other three-fourthr. With the completion of the work as now plan ned, the road will be on a good grade from Waldport to the Ben'on county line.
