To counteract this pos Blbillty, District Attorney Evans last night Issued a timely warning, calling attention ot the provisions of the corrupt practices act. Political boomerangs may be hurled if the attention of candidates is not palled to provisions of the state law which prohibit the publication and circulation of any political libelous matter," commented Mr. Evans. "The purpose of this statute was to put an end. to last-minute attacks on candi dates which cannot be answered be fore election and which usually are not based on facts." A portion of the law reads: "If any letter, circular, poster, bill, publication p o'lenrd shall contain any false statement or charges (reflecting on any candidate's character, morality or integrity, the author thereof and every .. . .a printing or knowingly assisting In the circulation thereof shall "be guilty of political criminal libel, and upon conviction thereof Bhall be pun ished by Imprisonment in the peni tentiary for not loss thnn one year nor more than three years."
