The little stream of Beaver Creek is bank full and overflow ing. The water conies gushing down over the rocks, taking bridges, fences and all rubbish that happens in its way, and brings it whirling down stream. Ye people living on the lowlands will have to move your houses to higher ground if this keeps up. Miss Delia Trapp spent Sun day at the Peterson ranch. A Christinas Inteftainment will be given at the school house by the school children, Thurs day, December 20th, at 2 P. M. lie uii e and come for everybody i.-: cordially invited to attend. I.-'iss Delia Trapp was a guest ot the Rinoades home Tuesday 'evening. li. G. Rhoades and J. M. Bow ers made a trip to Yaquina Wed nesday. Misses Hester Peterson and Alctha R'aopdei spent Wednes day night with Miss Trapp. J. N. lluyett butchered a beef Thursday. There isn't much news this week as everybody is staying in doors and list.ilng to the storm raging without. ROCK CREEK Leonard Crawford was down to I'pper Farm Wednesday. Henry Zbinde.i has returned home from Alaska where he has been working during the Sum mer. W. Ward of Falls City was here a few days 1 ist week. Mrs. Horsfall was in Dallas a few days this week. Percy Crawford Is working in the Valley and Siletz Logging camp. Roy McMurphy and Col. Stottard of Falls City wee over here a few days last week. S. L. Elliot has moved to Pennsylvania. ORTON A Christmas programme will be tiven at the Upper Farm Day School, Sunday evening, Decem ber 23rd, as Miss Lewis leaves for her home in Carlton, Oregon cn Monday. Everyone is looking forward to a jolly good time. Come one and all you are as welcome as the flowers in May. Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Baker and children arrive! home Tuesday from Siletz where Mr. Baker ha3 been working all summer. Mrs. John Isaacson called at the Evans' home last Sunday. Miss Maude Porter and Miss Lewis called at E. T. Raddant's ranch last Sunday. Mr. Kurtichanov of Chit wood sptiit Wednesday and Thursday at the home of Xed Evans, re taming home Thursday after noon. It has been raining pretty hard lately. So very hard that a per son is almost afraid to go out when it is raining real hard for fear of being knocked down by a raindrop as it takes a pretty frisky person to dodge 'em. T ain't long 'till good old Chris comes around. Here's hurrah! for him when he doas come; and we all hope he'll bring a lot of candy and chewing gum and that there'll be a lot of snow on the ground so his reindeer and fcbigh will come right along easy. GLEN W. R. Moore who was so un fortunate as to seriously Injure one eye Just before Thanksgiv ing Is able to be at work again. Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Brown have received word that their sons, Raymond and Asa have gone on to Washington from Vancouver and that Everet was held In the hospital becaase of exposure to a couple of cuspect ed cases of scarlet fever. This will be a serious dlssapolntmcnt both to the boys and their fam- There was a neighborhood dinner at the school house and several families were present to enjoy a sociable time together. Several other families were pre vented from coming by the very bad weather. Miss Holder is planning a Christmas tree and musical program for the Friday before Xmas, as she wishes to go to her home at Salem the Monday before Xmas. The school is to have a vacation of two weeks during her absence. Miss Edith Davenport was home for a visit before Thanks giving and helped with the school program. Mr. and Mrs. S. J. Stewart and family visited with Mrs. Stew art's parents several days this week. Mr. Stewart reports the seri ous illness of his son, Rupert, who is at Prinesvllle. i Roy Moore ought to bo able to say hello to his fellow man with a right gcod will. A man who can carry such an enormous coil of wire so far certainly deserves a phone. Here's hoping the rest of the neighbors come cito the line soon. Miss Clara Moore was home for Thanksgiving and went back the week following. The J. W. and John D. Daven port families were entertained with a splendi J chicken dinner at the Hill Top ranch Sunday. T. L. Bohaimon was over at the Bay for a visit with Mr3. T. ,L.. who is teaching the Butler school opposite Toledo. Mrs. John Davenport is over at Toledo visiting her people, the A. L. Martin familv. LITTLE ELK i In the August issue of the Leader somebody said they wanted ram. If they still live in Lincoln County they are getting what they wanted. S. T. Loudon went to Harlan Saturday on Grange business, i Elmo Wehnert started his milk wagon Monday. lie also hauls freight and carries mail. Brown Wakefield and Roger Loudon went to Portland last week to enlist in the Navy and both passed the examination and will be sent to "Frisco" for training. Mrs. W. F. Wakefield and son were visiting the formers par ents at Dayton last week while W. p., attended Commissioners Convention at Portland. A birthday party was given at Irvin Maees last Saturday evening in honor of Mr. Magee. It seems that there are a few people that thin we have no more use for a County Court since they have got the County out of debt. We believe the re call will find very few friends in this part of the County as most of us agree with the article of last week's Leader. j ORTON ! Hurrah for the rain. But It hasn't scared us out of farming yet. Bruce Butler, Clayton Pond and Giles Olin passed through Orton last Friday. Lodi Callahan returned home from Falls City last Monday. ,The roads are very bad out .there. John Isaacson was In Orton last Monday. I O. W. Baker has been moving up Bear Creek the last two days. ! This booth is in charge of Isabel Lingenfelter and Carrie Wade and ig open for one hour each jevenlng. In the two nights they mve taken in $34, which repre sents 34 memberships. STACK BLOWS DOWN SUNDAY The hugh smokestack on the plant of the Yaquina Electric Company in this city had about eight feat blown off of the top of it, early Sunday morning, during the heavy wind and rain storm. The stack was about 75 feet in height and four feet In diameter, and it certainly made a racket when it toppled over on the corrugated iron roof of the plant, and then slid to the ground. Lawrence Altree was in charge and thought that the plain had been hit by a German bomb.
