SAM IRVIN MAKES COMMENT Editor Leader: I was very much pleased when I read the heading of your editorial "Tide land Owners Need Not Worry," but after persuing the artlCnj u '.he finisa.it dood not seem to . me to bear out that conclusion. Unfortunately in this case the assessment, of the land has but little to do with the title. It might be assessed to ona person and owned by another, as is of-' ten the case. A more important question is, what lands did the state grant to tha; railroad company. The railroad company has spent large sums of money in making surveys and listing the lands they claim, and in accordance with law have given notica that they claim 4heni, and who has a right to say who is the right ful owner, except the courts? It does not make any differ ence to the railroad company who owned the lands before they got It. The court says the state had a right to grant the lands to the company, and now they are surveying and claiming all the lands of a certain classi fication regardless of whether it Is within or without the mean- aer line, and wjth perfect IndiN Terence as to present or former owners. If one would ask Mr. Herron Mr. Fulton, Mr. Fenton, Mr. Col- ,vig or Mr. Weatherford it is very likely they wouIJ say that the .railroad company has a right in what they claim. And there are manv nportln In Orerin whn ha vj The trials in Justice Court .a high regard for their opinions here last Saturday resulted in i0n such matters, the conviction of Geo. Mr. Loudon reports the granges in that section in a flourishing con dition. He left here yesterday morning for the southern end of the county to visit the granges. He will visit every grange in the county before returning to his home at Eddyville. Mr. Loudon is about the happiest man In Lin coln county now. Here are the reasons: Mr. Loudon Just com leted his term as master of his home grange at Eddyville, and his grange members, presented him with a beautiful gold past master's pin, as a token of the esteem In which his home mem bers hold him. Another thing, while in this city he Just learned that he had recently become Grandpa Loudon, a son having been born to his daughter, Mrs. C. II. Wakefield, at Woodburn, January 16th. And Grandpa Loudon is stepping high. 0 LAFFERTY TO MAKE PERSONAL CAMPAIGN Lincoln County Leader: Will you please say to your patrons for me that I do not "expect to have my law office open at To ledo until after tho coming pri maries are over. When I finish the work I am now doing in the "12-4" cases I intend to make a personal campaign throughout Lincoln county In the interest of my candidacy for the prosecut ing attorneyship of said county. I am going to try to meet every voter in Lincoln county. By coming In personal contact and talking wlh a candidate I think a voter can better Judge the fit ness of the candidate for any particular office than he or she can by relying wholly upon newspaper comment or "neigh borhood hearsay." Certainly none of us are averso to having the newspapers . say "nice things" about us, but I think a voter should have the opportun ity of Judging first hand. Paid Adv. P. A.
