SAM IRVIN MAKES COMMENT
Editor Leader: I was very
much pleased when I read the
heading of your editorial "Tide
land Owners Need Not Worry,"
but after persuing the artlCnj u
'.he finisa.it dood not seem to .
me to bear out that conclusion.
Unfortunately in this case the
assessment, of the land has but
little to do with the title. It
might be assessed to ona person
and owned by another, as is of-'
ten the case.
A more important question is,
what lands did the state grant
to tha; railroad company. The
railroad company has spent
large sums of money in making
surveys and listing the lands
they claim, and in accordance
with law have given notica that
they claim 4heni, and who has
a right to say who is the right
ful owner, except the courts?
It does not make any differ
ence to the railroad company
who owned the lands before
they got It. The court says the
state had a right to grant the
lands to the company, and now
they are surveying and claiming
all the lands of a certain classi
fication regardless of whether it

what they claim. And there are

his grange members, presented

LAFFERTY TO MAKE

Lincoln County Leader: Will
you please say to your patrons
for me that I do not "expect to
have my law office open at To
ledo until after tho coming pri
maries are over. When I finish
the work I am now doing in the
"12-4" cases I intend to make a
personal campaign throughout
Lincoln county In the interest of
my candidacy for the prosecut
ing attorneyship of said county.
I am going to try to meet every
voter in Lincoln county. By
coming In personal contact and
talking wlh a candidate I think
a voter can better Judge the fit
ness of the candidate for any
particular office than he or she
can by relying wholly upon
newspaper comment or "neigh
borhood hearsay." Certainly
none of us are averso to having
the newspapers . say "nice
things" about us, but I think a
voter should have the opportun
ity of Judging first hand.
