LINCOLN COUNTY LEADER, FRIDAY,;. JULY, 30th, 1915., Page 3,. TWILL PUT RCCK . .- ON SILETZ ROAD CIRCUIT COURT DOCKET AUCUST.TERM . Road Supervisor Frank Larie "is making preparations to start :the rock crusher at Siletz next aionday preparatory to putting crushed rock on the Siletz-To-"ledo road. The people living 'along the road have donated 'some six hundred dollars' worth 'Of work and the county will do an equal amount. With this amount of money the road can be put in pretty fair condition. During the past Winter the road "was , nearly iniDassablfl nnri it i ';hoped that It can be gotten in I -gooa condition for the comine Winter. . , n MAMMOTH GENERATOR FOR FORD POWER HOUSE The six direct current electri cal generators now being in stalled in the new power house of the Ford Motor company are likely to take their place in the ' "Manufacturing Hall of Fame" along side of the Panama Canal " locks and other "biggest" manu factured things. It is Baid that the Ford power plant is now the largest of its kind in the world. It will le . velop 45,000 horse power dis tributed to shop machines by means' of numerous overhead motors. It is estimated that one of the new generators when running at normal speed produces enough current to light more than 00.000 40-watt tunesten lamps of the kind commonly used in home lighting. Allow ing an average of 25 such lamps to a house the current generated by these six dynamos would be sufficient to furnish home illum ination for a city of 108,000 peo ple. The total weight of the generator, including the shaft, is figured at 135 tons. The new generators are so "huge they could not be shipped in complete form from the plant of the Crocker-Wheeler Co., Am pere, N. J., where they were manufactured, as it would have "been, impossible to get through railroad tunnels or under many of the bridges.' They were therefore shipped and handled in sections which necessitated the Bending of special men and ma chinery to the Ford plant If one of the new generators -were placed before a two and one-half story house of the usual dimensions, the lower stories would be hidden from view, for the frame of the generator would, reach from the sidewalk to the bottom, of the attic win dows and would more than span the front of the house. Some of the bcjts used weigh 600 pounds each and some of the nuts 90 pounds. Twenty-six thousand separate parts were used in making the laminated cores and 8000 pounds of copper wire in the commutator alone. , 0 ' "Wanted Skim milk to be - shipped to Newport in 10-gallon cans.
